George Clooney as Batman. I remember thinking that he would actually make a pretty cool Batman, but sitting in the theater watching it was painful. I remember wanting to leave as soon as he whipped out his Bat-Visa, but my girlfriend was enjoying to movie too much. God that was painful...

I thought the trailer for The Avengers (with Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman) looked so cool, but I thought it was a pretty miserable film...hard to watch!

I didn't expect Hannibal to be any good, but I was hoping I would be pleasantly surprised, and I wasn't.

Conversely, I expected Mystery Men to be one of the most fun movies I had ever seen (great cast, great concept, and very similar to comics I wrote as a teen), but it lacked the punch to make it any sort of cult classic.

As for flat-out disappointments, for me nothing can beat Episode One: The Phantom Menace (also known as "Lucas is a tired old hack who has lost it")! Jar-Jar Binks narrowly edges out Jake Lloyd for being the most annoying character in the movie, or any movie. I'm still looking forward to Episode 2, but I'll force myself not to get caught up in the hype beforehand again. Yeah, right.

Oh, I forgot Rushmore. As big a Bill Murray fan as I am, I totally didn't get this movie or understand what all the acclaim was for. I found it boring and mean-spirited, sort of a hack-job.

rufie:

i still cant blame clooney for batman. he's a pretty good actor, and, damnit, he LOOKS like bruce wayne.

ill see schumaker in hell, but, b&r wasn't georgie's fault.

bbvl:

agreed on mystery men!!! the intro scene, first 20 minutes or so, was great! got my all hyped up for the movie... but, it was sucha let down thru the rest of it... i was blamed by the group i went with, cuz, it was my idea to see it... and thats a horrible feeling, for those who've shared it.

I was blamed becuase I made the decision that led a friend and me to see The Object of My Affection, the Jennifer Anniston movie about the gay guy. That sucked the proverbial big one, and I have never quite lived that down...

I would have to agree with rufie, after seeing Batman Forever I expected camp, while I really hated Forever, I went in with that expectation as I hate Jim Carey, not to mention Tommy Lee Jones horrendous Joker errrr Two Face, I expected more from batman and robin and got less... I dont care much for Clooney, very overrated, but dont hate him like Carey, he was awful as was Uma doing her worst Earth Kitt impression. And the "terminal illness" of Alfred doesnt work for the sympathy vote in kamp.

Odd that this thread was started in 2001, since I have 2 movies from 2001 to add to the list:

Planet of the Apes: I was going along with the whole thing until they got to the end, and then I was questioning EVERYTHING I saw before and wondering how they got to the ending from that.

AI: Good up until Haley Joel Osment goes underwater. The last part with him in the future getting his adopted mom back seemed completely different from the rest of the movie in terms of mood and plot that it looked like Spielberg tacked that onto Kubrick's original story.

Cloony sucks, outright sucks.

You can watch any of his movies or an old episode of Facts of Life and he's always the same.

He doesn't act.

He's just George Clowny.

Put two tvs next to each other and not know which is Bruce Wayne and which is robbing the casino.

(old Dennis Miller joke that fits:) He has all the range of a Daisy air rifel.

Down with Clowny!

Spiderman: It had come out a little bit after X-Men, which I loved, so I was hoping for/expecting this to be just as good. I thought Tobey Maguire was a great cast. He looked like the character, a down to Earth, normal looking guy, almost nerdy, even; not some typical blonde hair, blue eyed Hollywood pretty boy. I wasn't too impressed by the pictures I'd seen of the Green Goblin costume(infact, I thought it sucked), but I had faith in Willem Dafoe and Sam Raimi. To top it all off, a few weeks prior to seeing it I saw a trailer with Spidey swinging through Manhattan that completely blew me away. I was hooked. I was convinced it was going to be good.

And it blew. Awful script, horrid dialogue, and pretty crappy performances by Maguire and Dunst. They had no chemistry. Even Willem Dafoe was a bit hammy(especially with the scene where he's talking to a chair). J.K Simmons(Jameson) gave the only really strong performance(he practically stole the show, actually). The action scenes, which were, at times, spectacular, were the only thing keeping me in my seat, and they almost weren't enough.

Phantom Menace. I actually stood up and said "that was horrible" when that piece of crap was over.
Terminator 3 was a shitty rip off of the first t2 (excellent) films.

OK, I take mine back.

The biggest movie disappointment was Weapons of Ass Destruction 2. It had more ass, but it lacked even more story than the first!

Yeah, I don't think some people get the topic. It's biggest movie...dissapointment. If you expected Gigli to be something beyond craptacular....then I'm dissapointed in you.

How some of those (*heh*) "Warsies" can actually still defend these films is one of the great mysteries of our age.
