BTW, the "MBL Next Step" story takes place before this happens, obviously.

I forgot about the use of Cicciotto's figure in MBL. If it creates a problem for your story, Doc, we can skip the whole "lost memories" thing.

Can I ask something out of curiosity, without anyone thinking I am for a fight?
Why to create a separate branch of Vanguard, instead of another totally different organization? I mean, if Vanguard Europe becomes the branch of a superhero team, while Vanguard reverts to a company specialized in adventure (let's say a "Challenger of the Unknow" team), how can they be possibly be related?
Keeping them separated, even if "friend" like MBL and TOMB were, it would leave complete freedom to follow whatever evolution the stories would bring to (or even no evolution at all). Keeping them connected, would just bring in unneeded baggage, I feel.
What is the aspect that you consider so important to keep? The name? Miss Xyang leadership? Nuriko?
Personally, I like for Vanguard to become global and to become a sort of JLA, or, better, JLI.
Others have expressed interest into keeping Vanguard the small company it was at the beginning. With the separation, that could be allowed, but not if the small adventure company has a big global superhero branch.
I say keep them in good terms, obviously, but let's keep them separated.
And also I would suggest to relocate the small company in the fish factory. It would suit that kind of team much more than the high tech Complex.

On this point, I'm gonna say "no". For a company to go from a state-of-the-art facility to a two-bit shack is illogical. The fish factory is alright for "nostalgia" purposes (which, I understand you greatly enjoy), but I'd prefer the team stay where they are. As it stands, they have the necessary equipment to tackle the research and other elements that come up when doing this sort of work. Why would they trade it for a smelly factory with NONE of that?
It doesn't suit them at all. I think they're fine where they are. Thus sayeth the Walrus.

TTT, my previous statement was not in any way to say that you wanted a more JLA type team. I was just using that as an example to say that we can all do what we want in this universe as long as we put a little work and thought behind it. I don't think it came out so well due to the massive amount of alcohol in my system at the time. And I agree with you on the teamwork aspect. I got burnt out on the last story because I tried to prevent some subplots from becoming too character oriented by breaking them up with building up the antagonist. I liked it when the group or smaller groups were interacting with each other more than one character being brought out as the hero of the situation that seemed to pop up or more than one occasion. As far as the meta-gene and meta-terrorism, because of a lot of want by people on this team, Grimm and I began to develop plot lines to take the group where a lot of people said they wanted it to go. I don't know if they all still think this way or have changed their minds by now since it's been almost a year; but we went with what we were told then. Believe it or not, they are devices that we are using not only to elevate the team to the Authority/JLA status that many thought they wanted, but to also quash a lot of the anti-meta sentiment. "How?" you may ask. Well, you'll just have to wait to see that. If the main group decides that they no longer want to go the larger super-heroey route, then the story can easily be changed to accomodate that. Chewy, you only get a say if you post in the main story. So shaddup! Quote:
Eurostar said: Why to create a separate branch of Vanguard, instead of another totally different organization?
Because we have put a lot into the Vanguard concept and don't want to abandon it. Just like we don't want to abandon this univese or writing group. We simply want to make it easier and more fun for everyone involved. Plus, it allows us much more freedom than you think. We've thought this out and figured out a good way to keep from getting overloaded with anything that might happen from the main office. We write around it.

No.
Why to create a separate branch of Vanguard, instead of another totally different organization?
Because we like Vanguard and want to continue it. It's a perfectly logical progression of the business aspect of the organization.
I mean, if Vanguard Europe becomes the branch of a superhero team, while Vanguard reverts to a company specialized in adventure (let's say a "Challenger of the Unknow" team), how can they be possibly be related?
The same way that a restaurant that opens another franchise in another city than the one it's originally based in is related to the new one. Vanguard Europe is the branch office of a BUSINESS. What types of business the two offices handle is up to the people involved.
Keeping them separated, even if "friend" like MBL and TOMB were, it would leave complete freedom to follow whatever evolution the stories would bring to (or even no evolution at all). Keeping them connected, would just bring in unneeded baggage, I feel.
Well guess what? I disagree. We will have no baggage.
What is the aspect that you consider so important to keep? The name?
Partly the name. And as doc said, we are not going to completely abandon things we've already put A LOT of work into. A LOT.
Personally, I like for Vanguard to become global and to become a sort of JLA, or, better, JLI.
That's exactly what we're doing with a branch office. So why are you against this?
Others have expressed interest into keeping Vanguard the small company it was at the beginning. With the separation, that could be allowed, but not if the small adventure company has a big global superhero branch.
Wrong. With the separation it allows for both groups of people to do the stories they wish. As I have already stated before.
I say keep them in good terms, obviously, but let's keep them separated.
Well, duh.
And also I would suggest to relocate the small company in the fish factory. It would suit that kind of team much more than the high tech Complex.
I say Frank Cavelli stay in the Fish Factory, since you like the place now that it's "nostalgic."
The above responses are sarcasm, except where they're not. And if you can't figure out which is which, by now, then I can't help you.

Not really, since Vanguard Europe is not intended to be a conventional superhero group. Like I said, Grimm, Pro, and I were under the assumtion from some of the other posters that this was where the main group was headed.

I think there have been too many assumptions lately. Maybe we should hold an informal "vote" to see who wants to:
1) make Vanguard a superhero team like JLA or the Authority 2) have Vanguard be an adventurers' team with a low profile
My preference is for #2.

But yeah, we were attempting to establish these guys as a counterpoint to the main team.

Grimm gets it.
It's like me deciding to begin a "Vanguard Australia" branch, but not wanting to include Danny and having it written completely by North Americans despite the fact that we do have an Australian poster among us. Not saying it can't be done, it's... just very ironic, is all...

Vanguard Australia will consist of a troupe of gun-packing kangaroos with a hip-hop style, of course, and babies will be dangled before crocodiles AND eaten by dingoes in every single story... it'll be crikey-licious!

Yes, that's true.
What I was meaning is that IF we want to step back to the original idea behind the MBL in La Perdita, i.e. a small company of adventurer, we could FORCE to relocate in the fish factory, by making the Complex unsuitable (by destroying/being forced to sell/donating to charity it). I am telling it only because previously some posters have expressed dislike for the "cold, hi tech" headquarter. if we are going to rechange direction, back to the basic so to speak, it could be a chance to do a thing that pleased the MOST part of us writers.
For myself, I am fine with the complex as it is.
I have nostalgy only for the circus.

I never liked the Fish Factory except as a novelty. But I loved the apartment building. It was down-to-earth and had charm. The Complex is too "Star Trek" for my tastes. On the other hand, I'd give my eyeteeth to get Vanguard into the Mandelovian Presidential Palace, a la TOMB. I miss that place...

This is exactly what I was intending. Let the ones that remains in Vanguard America decide their own destiny.

This will be for sure, I guarantee that I will work to avoid the chaos that originated in the old Universe trying to keep consistent MBL and TOMB. If we want to do a story in which Lex Luthor do an hostile takeover of Vanguard, I don't want to be limited by the fact that there is a separate branch to take in consideration. I am not saying this because I adverse your idea. I bless it. But I have been through the old universe, and I saw the confusion, the utterly chaos that came from wanting to keep TOMB and the MBL in the same universe.

Not at all, if their model is the Autorithy.
If the reference is to me being European, well, what it takes to write good European setting is: topless babes on the beach, little cars and narrows streets, castles everywhere and peoples looking at soccer matches in smoky bars. Tall, blond peoples in the north, short, hairy peoples (including women) in the south (here).
Nothing more.

Agreed.
I do, however, like the Complex. I think a group of adventurers would have a place like that. I've always seen it as "an apartment with extras" myself - which is part of the reason that the main surveillance area is located in Grissom's apartment...

Just in case the idea about Vanguard setting up shop in the Mandelovian Palace seems like it comes out of the blue, there is some precedence for it already in the stories:
Victoria Xiang is a Mandelovian citizen, of course, so she would definitely want to return to Mandelovia once the current dictator is tossed out, and Dr. Henry Quantos lived in Mandelovia for more than 15 years. Both Miss X and Dr. Quantos left Mandelovia reluctantly, and only because D'goon took over the country.
Something to think about if/when Mandelovia is finally freed once more. I'll take Mandelovia over La Perdita any day, to tell you the truth. What do the rest of you former TOMBers think?

Forget everything I said. I'll go with whatever the group decides. I'm tired of it all. If we have to be superheroes, fine. If not, whatever. At this point I'm just interested in the stories, and I can't wait for this bloody semester to be over so I can get back to writing... Sorry to everyone for being so crabby lately. I'm under a lot of pressure with school and all, so most of my posts lately have been on the cranky side. I've been sleep-deprived for several weeks now. I hate seeing Vanguard split up the way it seems to be doing now, but it's understandable.

Wow. I thought I was a moody bastard. . .
I have no plans for Mandelovia post-Left Hand. After that, do as you wish. I know Pro would love it. (and TTT, I'm still waiting on that info you have worked out. If you don't send it to me, don't complain about my writing of Mandelovia.)
The Fish Factory was never meant to be a serious headquarters for anybody. It was meant as a humorous place for the group to say while the new HQ was being prepared. That's all. It's a shame more posters didn't realize this and enjoy it while it was around.

My few cents:
Isn´t best if we all divide into smaller groups during simultaneous ongoing adventures?
That way we can several ongoing stories at the same time but in different threads.
Ex 1: Vanguard: The Attack of the twenty foot Pink Robot. Starring members 1-4. (JLA type)
Ex 2: Vanguard: Europa Express. Starring members 5-8. (characterisation)
Ex 3: Vanguard: Action on the Equator. Starring members 9-12. (low power adventure)
And so on.
For each adventure we choose wich one we want to participate in. One can be a more low power adventure, the next a typicall JLA type, and the third mainly characterisation.
And as the stories end, we come up with 3 new stories in the same manner, that way if you feel like doing action one month, you can. And the next you can "rest" and join in a characterisation story.
This way the groups will be more managble.

I think that at this moment the splitting is inevitable.
I say let's see what Doc and Grimm are preparing. Then, once the two branches are created, the ones that are chosen to stay in Vanguard America should talk and maybe vote what direction to take. If to become a JLA like superhero team, remain a low profile company of adventurer, or becoming a traveling company of gardeners/museum curators (I especially love the latter).
Talking about it now, or even vote, when we don't know at all what Grimm and Doc are cooking up, would be pointless, IMO.

Woohoo! Another item on my list of things to procrastinate about. Seriously, though, I'm not worried about your take on Mandelovia, since most of it has been written out already in issue 14. I ignore any details too glaringly inaccurate (such as the idea of 3 million metahumans in Mandelovia) as a matter of course already. I kind of like Pro's idea about the posts by each poster existing in its own continuity similar enough to the posts of others in order to make the story flow in a chronological timeframe but not exactly the same, allowing for certain specificially minor details to differ. It sure helps to explains the minor contradictions that pop up as a matter of course in the stories all the time, such as swords appearing and disappearing, and guns/fluffy bunnies used or not used by certain characters, etc. (BTW, one of the new membership requirements for joining Vanguard should definitely be "proficiency with the use of a fluffy bunny as a deadly weapon". I'm just sayin'...)

Actually, I didn't see it that way at all. It looked to me like everyone enjoyed the Fish Factory for what it was -- a temporary headquarters. It was fun while it lasted, and it was used very well for its purposes in the story as far as I can see.
Now it's back to another round of procrastination instead of writing that term paper that's due tomorrow. Yes!

Eh. Thanks.
I would suggest David Bowie for the part of Adem, but that shows only that for me the eighties never ended.
As for the old MBL story, I have it completely planned. It's a twelve chapter story, so I guess, if work doesn't trouble me, in a little more than one week should be completed.

Vanguard Australia will consist of a troupe of gun-packing kangaroos with a hip-hop style, of course, and babies will be dangled before crocodiles AND eaten by dingoes in every single story... it'll be crikey-licious!

I...
I will kill you...
Thing is- I can’t spell or type. I spell so badly my spell check doesn’t even know what I was trying to spell. And I have five Eisners HAHAHAHHA!!

But Miss X is gonna die soon, making that redundant.

Grimm, interesting beginning with the Siege.
Mxy, you never cease to amaze me with your storytelling skill. You had me wondering what kind of character was your Immortal Man, trying to find a suitable host unregarding for his own will, just to reveal that my worries were his same only at the end. Beautiful.
