I was gonna have the whole team leave, newbies included, but I realized I would be denying the writers of those characters the chance to write their first meetings with the rest of the team. So, Euro and Drake, if you wanna write a first meeting, you can do so now.

Don't know how active I'll be this week, my stepfather died this morning. I'll be headed out of town Friday.

Shit! That's my fault. I wasn't sure if Ozzy was avaliable so I checked the first page of this thread and saw the list you posted, that had him in the roster. Sorry about that. Would you like me to edit him out of my posts (wouldn't be too hard), or pull something now?

Grimm, anything I might say right now would sound like a cliche, but you really have my sympathies. I've lost family members in the past myself, and it's a hard thing to accept. Let me know if I can do anything to help you out. Anything at all.

Condolences, Grimm.

On the lighter note, I am very liking the Siege.

I love to see a great gathering of villains (especially pleased to see Clifford and Cascade, I like the mix) and I love especially the parallel Earths stuff.

If I can make a very minor observation, that should be taken just as a trivia, altough I enjoying seeing Eurostar depicted as a superman able to turn the sort of the war (well, enjoying to see him so powerful, not the allies loosing the war ), I don't think such a name could have been created in the '40s.

The whole idea of Europe as a political expression, and not just the name of a landmass, originated AFTER WWII- Before, nobody aside some few enlightened spirit could have considered Europe as the country of origin of a person. It was a time of nationalism, everywhere, not just Italy or Germany, but also France, or England.

So, even if I understand the need to be concise and the shock value of the Eurostar name, I think an Italian WWII superman should have a name like The Legionary, or Littore, or Maciste (a popular movie character of the time), or Caesar, or any reference to Roman time heroes you can think of.

That's true, but then no one would've known who the character was meant to be. I actually wanted to introduce more "golden age" versions of the characters, but I feel it would've made that part of the story too large. It works better as a quick snippet.

Sure, in fact I anticipated that in my post.

Maybe the Edulcore Cicciotto name would have sorted the same effect, though. Just to keep things more credible.

Well, we are talking about superheroes. Skip my previous line.

Catching up. Been out of town all weekend. Interesting stuff in the main thread. I'm nearly tempted to post. Nearly.

By my count, the lineup is:

Danny
Phil
Priest
Banshee
Mason
Adem
Phouka
Frank Cavelli
Max (cool character, like how you worked that one in, Mxy.)
and of course, Jerry Matthers as Blackwulf.

I also dug up the text from some of the previous stories that mentions Aisling. Just use it as a reference if you have questions.

Quote:

Walker shook his head. "You were also there from your birth in 1985 to your release in 1987...Your DNA is different."

"Right. Because I'm a meta," she said.

"Being a meta only accounts for a fraction of your DNA," said Walker. "Banshee, you make proteins that no mammels ever make. The bone structure in your wings is indentical to the pigeons used in labratories. Your circulartory system is different. Your aortic arch is backwards."

Brianna was getting angry, though she didn't know why. "So what does that have to do with Aisling?"

"Miss Fionnghuala, they've tampered with you since your conception. Thirty percent of you genome is from a damn pigeon."

Somehow, Brianna understood what he was saying. She didn't show it, she just stood there, thinking about supressed memories. "I suppose...there were others with me..."

"Whoever did this knew exactly what DNA you needed. They knew not to touch your respritory system because of your metagene, but they knew to give to an avian heart. I dare say, there were probably a dozen that died before you before they knew what to do."

"Lucky me," said Brianna. "So...I'm still a meta, right?" She had spent years wanting to be human, and normal, and loved. Walker was telling her she was just a guiene pig. Now, Brianna was clinging to the fact that there was some spark of originality in her. Something to make her special, and not just a lab rat.

"Your sonic scream is your meta trait -- your only meta trait. But Aisling gave you the wings."

"Bastards," she said. "Brandon most of all."

Quote:

There was one e-mail from Walker. Brianna opened it. This is what it said:

Brandon McKnight
A.G.R.L.
Reno, Nevada

"Sleep tight Brandon," said Brianna. "Banshee will pay a visit to you soon..."

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Grimmy. About Priest, I only used him in my posts to replace Ozzy. I never said he went on the mission with the rest, he was just hanging out in the hangar. If Gooz wants to say that he did come that would be cool.

Hello, I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm in the process of moving so it's difficult for me to get online right now. I'll be posting again as soon as i have regular access (probably in a week or so. My long time long distance girlfriend and I are moving in together (she posted here a few times as Ariel AKA Warp). I'm not making this up. I really do have a girlfriend.

I'll see you soon.

The Siege is getting increasingly intriguing.

I am especially surprised to see Myrrdin in the Council of Heaven, being him an immortal, but fully human. Yet, it makes sense to see him there, with his peculiar power of living across the timelines without any parallel version of himself existing.

Yet, the reference to Hoods and Capes is outdated, as the two societies have been destroyed in Crimen Caligo (a fact that happened before issue 12), and even more, the goal of the neanderthal was to keep them in balance and NOT to destroy the two of them, as explained in the Antarctic story. In the mind of Myrrdin, the enormous power of the two societies was keeping the Earth free from greater menaces; now that Hoods and Capes have been destroyed, he fears something could try to enslaves Earth...
A concept that could work well with what is happening in your own story, maybe, and surely with the evil MBL menace and things to come.

But as always, it's a minor thing, and I point it out just to let everyone understand better the character Myrrdin and his motivations.

Good to know the story's working. I'm having a lot of fun with it, but it is a juggling act. Lots of surprises still to come.

The Hoods and Capes thing, well, that's my screwup. Heh. I was unsure as to the exact point the groups were around until. In any case, the reference Scion makes is to past attempts to sway the council by Myrrdin, so taken like that, it should make more sense. I can make slight edits to the dialogue to reflect that better.

The Council of Haven was something that Pro and I wanted to be a little more reflective of the group, thus giving it a better sense of "legitimacy" or something like that. It's an attempt at creating a version of DC's "Quintessence" or the "Courts of Light" only on a more human level and scale. Hope no one minds their characters being in there. Also, there are several council members yet to be named.

Grimm, I'm becoming more and more intrigued by "Siege". Loved the "Courts of Haven"! Can't wait to see how these stories eventually converge. Look forward to whatever else you've got cooked up!

Fantastic. I love especially the short looks at parallel universes.

I don't think it's necessary, it's inevitable everyone gives a proper interpretation to characters, concepts and events. My remark was just to help explaining better things that could be obscure. If no one touches them, there is no prob if they stay obscure, but if people got interested in those, and want to use them, it's better to make them more clear. Hoods and Capes have been destroyed as Societies. Just a few scattered members of both factions survive today (like Aurochs and Saros to name the most promiment ones).

About this I have mixed feelings. Oh, don't get me wrong, I love how you and Pro have portrayed the council, and I concour that incorporating cosmic beings and immortal ones from many posters as possible, it gives it a better sense of connection with the Vanguard Universe.
Yet, the existence of the Order gives also the idea (that could be false, I know) that if Vanguard fails, there is someone bigger and powerful ready to save humankind. I don't mind having demigods or cosmic being around, but I would like to see them as always POTENTIAL threaths. Like the Pantehon is.

Actually, I do understand some of your concerns about the Order. In fact, one of the reasons I've taken Grimm out of the main group is the connection to the Order. They were already becoming too much of a failsafe for Vanguard. Vanguard needs to stand on their own, I feel, and the Order was becoming too accessible to them.

As far as the Siege goes, the Order will have more of a background role, for the most part.

The Pantheon's cool because they can work as heroes or villains, depending on the situation. I like that. They're kind of a spoiler, in a way.

So, as always, thanks for reading and for the comments, I've worked pretty hard on this, and it's good to know that it's pretty well received. I'm going out of town this weekend, and so I'm going to try to put up what I can before I leave.

Grimm : Loving The Siege! Excellent suspense, and characterization. I'm really liking seeing the parts of the story we talked about pop-up here and there. Even the quoted description of the Council chamber was expertly placed.

I loved how Rant and Amuck "stopped" Vengeance. Brilliant. I was surprised by the Dirk appearance, as well as his hook-up with Nuriko. Seems everyone wants to sleep with her... Also, I thought the little tale of Wun was superb and captured that character's essence and 'legend' well. All in all, well done, and I await more.

The Order

I think I've said this time and again, but, one more time, shall we?

The Order was originally created to do what Vanguard could/does not. That being, handling the big cosmic threats. When I came back to writing with this new universe, I saw a certain aspect missing. Unlike TOMB, this team was no longer "superheroes", and their primary mission was not to protect Earth, and mankind. They had become a business.

It was as you guys wrote them. They handled down-to-earth, normal metahuman conflicts, on the scale of what was deemed plausible and believable by the consensus of writers. So, in my mind, if a cataclysmic threat of cosmically-epic proportions encroached upon the planet, then Vanguard/The MBL would just not be powerful enough to handle such a situation.

This seemed fine and well to everyone, as, if you had wanted it any other way, you would have written it as such. But, you didn't. So, I did.

I created The Order to protect the universe. If, for example, there was no Order, then, how would an Earth-bound team of "adventurers" like Vanguard handle an full-scale dimensional invasion? How would they handle mad gods? Sentient primal viruses, infecting third-dimensional space? These are the types of concepts that you guys did not want, or, were afraid to touch. The big stuff. Well, I'm not afraid, and, rather enjoy taking on the bigger-scaled plotlines and subjects.

So, when guys like you, Euro, continually question and complain about The Order's existence, and state that you're afraid that it might "overshadow" Vanguard's place in this universe, I just can't understand it. If you had wanted to have your own characters, or even the main team, be equipped to face the big stuff, then why not write it that way?

I'm sorry if any of you don't like, or can't understand a simple concept like The Order. It's perfectly okay to do so, however, and I accept that some people just won't get it, or even like it. But, in the end, if you can't or won't write your own stuff in the fashion that would make The Order redundant, then, don't complain or frown everytime they are used somewhere.

If you don't like them, or even want to ignore them, fine. But, don't just sit there and bitch because you think it might "outshine" the Vanguardian stuff.

That's just silly.

It tends to put you immediately at a disadvantage and IMO is a sign of true weakness.
This is true both in politics and on the internet."
