whomod, you do realize I was teasing, don't you?

Hence the "winky" emoticon?

Seriously, however, with the overwhelming victory at the polls of President Bush in November, and the fact that the left no longer has to rally around vet John Kerry, are we seeing a return to the "anti-war" types of days gone by? The strain of so-called peacenik that cheers the deaths of US soldiers and calls them baby killers...ala their reprehensible behavior during the Vietnam war?

There will always be extremists who cheer the deaths of soldiers.

Just as there will always be idiots who make comments like "if only these people were Christians, everything would be fine!"

Funny.. Winning 51 percent of the popular vote in the election, Bush
administration officials were quick to declare that the results constitute
a "mandate" for Bush's second term. This interpretation of the election quickly
caught hold in the mainstream media. A sign perhaps that White House spin
was triumphing over the actual numbers recorded on Election Day.

What kind of [overwhelming] mandate
does he think he has with a 51 percent win?

Furthermore...

Bush is the first incumbent president to have an approval rating below 50 percent one month after winning re-election.

Overwhelming indeed.

Clinton won with only forty-three percent of the vote and it was called a "mandate for change":

Furthermore, in the 2004 election, G.W. Bush, even in the states he lost, increased his number of votes in 45 of the 50 states, and won by higher margins than 2000 among every conceivable voter group (married women, white males, military personnel, hispanics, blacks...)

And ultimately, G.W. Bush won in 2004 by three and a half million votes. A clear and decisive majority, however one tries to spin it otherwise.

I dunno why we don't see more " Are conservatives self-righteous, theocratic, lock-stepping, authoritiarian, greedy hypocrites who hate knowledge and hold the rest of the world (or just anyone who disagrees with them) in contempt?" threads?

Probably because as we keep pointing out, these are gross generalizations that serve to do nothing but further divide and caricature.

Generalizations and demonization seems to comfort a few people here though..

None of whom actually started red-state bashing or Bush-bashing threads in the aftermath of the 2004 presidential election, if I recall correctly.

In fact, several threads started by Kerry supporters advocated the setting aside of differences after the election. Yes, they got sidetracked and corrupted into red-state bashing threads by some of the more extremist Kerry supporters, but the honest initial intent behind them was to demonstrate that we were gonna be good sports about the election results.

Not every liberal views the world in the exact same text as the so-called "Liberal Media". Sensationalism isn't some secret ingredient news reporters have been using in their stories for years without us knowing about it, and it's definitely not something conservatives have a monopoly on.

Actually, even if he was saying that the liberal media are not all liberals, I would have to agree. Just as there are non-conservatives in the conservative media. It's all about what makes money, and money is stronger than personal convictions. Do you really think every person who reports for Fox is a true conservative, or that every person who reports for CNN is a liberal? Please. If they offer a reporter enough money, he'll read whatever news sheet they give him with all his heart and soul.

From the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Thistle, self-described as “an alternative news collective,” here’s a cartoon that seems to dispute the notion of “support our troops, not the war” Victory to the Iraqi Resistance.

And this lovely little article, " Hold Your Head High, You are in Fallujah!":

The debate during the Vietnam war was built around the question, “Can we win in Vietnam” rather than, “Why are we attacking a defenseless nation?” This time, in Iraq, if the debate admits the obvious moral question, “How are we freeing Iraqis by bombing them with cluster bombs?” then less excuses will be available to people like bin Laden to justify another September 11. If this doesn’t happen, then the American public need no longer ask “why do they hate us?” They will know why. At the very least, this public can demand to hear a clear statement from the so-called Democratic opposition candidate, John Kerry, that he opposes the war and would withdraw the forces from Iraq, as did the new Prime Minister of Spain?

As far as the progressive and radical elements of the US opposition, can they be brave and take the side of the victims of Uncle Sam? Can they build their argument on something more than expressing concern for the safety of US military personnel? Can they take their position further than opposing the war simply because of the horror of soldiers returning in body bags? Can they instead openly support the right of the Iraqis to resist?

This time, Rambo, Chuck Norris, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Hollywood will have to do a lot of acting and lying to restore the image of the American military hero and his adventures abroad.

The US can lie all it wants about those who are resisting in Iraq and about what is really happening, but one thing is for sure: Uncle Sam knows what kind of losses he is suffering. The bigger the lie, the harder the downfall will be.

The whole world owes Fallujah a tribute. Through the sacrifice of Iraqi fighters, the entire world has been shown the bloodsucking nature of US empire. The resistance in Fallujah is a lesson to all who choose to resist a life of oppression.

During a TV interview , one of the resistance members of Fallujah said: “We will fight until our last bullet, our last drop of blood. We hold our heads high in the sky, because we are in Al-Fallujah.”

You post an article critical of American Imperialism and accompany it with an unrelated disdainful picture of U.S. troops as "pigs". Posted by who knows who for who knows what ends.

Not exactly a case study in subtelty nor fairness.

Plus given the fact that thousands of Iraqi civilians have been blown to bits over discredited rationale, don't you think some Iraqi's, some Americans and some human beings period might take some offense or anger?

Plus I don't get this whole "liberals don't support the troops" deal. It is possible to applaud those sent out to do their sworn duty for their country while still being critical of those leading (or misleading) them.

And must one support ALL troops? What about the troops torturing Iraqi's in the Iraqi prison?... Must we show them the same respect we show someone who conducted themselves with honor, bravery, and distinction?

But anyways... M.I.T.??!!!!

Not the place i'd expect as a bastion of radical liberalism.

I agree, but printing editorial cartoons depicting US soldiers as "pigs," being killed by Iraqi missiles, with the caption "Victory to the Iraqi Resistance" isn't applause or support for them, is it?
