I liked it. The revelation at the end kinda irked me, though.

WOW

One of the reasons I love smallville is because they made boring characters interesting. I always found Superman/Clark Kent boring. Smallville Superman/Clark Kent is interesting.

Now they bring in Lois Lane. Can't stand her in the comics. Fell in love with her in smallville. Perfect casting. She has the whole "spunky with lots of attitude and a dry sense of humor" thing perfected. I think I'm in love.

Clark flying. WOW again. Almost had a fanboygasm. Great special effects. Don't listen to the bitch brothers.

Lana's boyfriend. Great. Believable. Can't wait to see him more.

Overall, great acting, great story, one of the best episodes ever.

Bravo.

I approve.

Haven't seen it yet but just based on the fact that even the lamer 1st season Ep.s always had something I liked, i'm guessing tonights Ep. was spectacular.

Right now i have it on my Tivo but am probably gonna wait until tommorow night so I can see it with my wife. Tonight was Nip/Tuck night for us.

Yeah, i'm dying to see it and so far i've avoided any spoilers apart from Clark actually flying. So I was wrong about the producers not abandoning their 'no flights' policy. Now I'm interested as to what brought this descision on.

"... we'll always have fight club..."

the episode, overall, was just really kick ass.

i totally agree about making the characters interesting. i truly enjoy jeph loeb's work, and i'm thrilled that he, and the writers, are given the creative leeway to do things on the show that the comics would never receive. important to note: they're not devastating the 65-year legacy of superman -- they're expanding it. its a refreshing and rejuvenated take that pays homage to everything it should without trapping itself in the past.

it is, after all, a story -- not a rehashed history lesson.

.
..
...
....
.....
some spoilers to follow
.....
....
...
..
.

one particular aspect i like about jeph loeb is that, in his stories, he generally does an amazing job at setting up new possibilities. in this episode, just off the top of my head, we have:
  • a more defined struggle of clark vs kal
  • the introduction of lois (and possible budding romance)
  • a new relationship for lana
  • the ramifications of new lana vs new clark
  • flight
  • lex's purification troubles
  • the luthor's search for artifacts / ultimate knowledge
  • dr. swan's assistant
  • chloe's non-death
  • a better role for ma/pa kent

and plenty more ("but wait, there's more!")

i also liked the nice touches of bringing back margot kidder (the 70-80s lois lane) as dr. swan's assistant ... then insinuating that her and dr. swan (lois and supes) had / have a relationship.

then, of course, draping clark in the red blanket (of perfect cape width and length) was cool as hell

so, here we are, at the beginning of a whole new season, where everything and every angle is new and interesting.

i'm pumped (as long as they don't start fuckin with the schedule like last season!)

Am I the only one scared of Wonder Woman Lana?

It was a good episode but I don't think we needed Lanas new boyfriend nor a plot devise to make sure she sucks too much screen time.

Lois was cool she dosent look 30 to me. I'm 31. She did look a little more stacked than in the nude photos (thanks for those) maybe it was the bra.

I read the black kryptonite was supposed to be tar kryptonite from the movie where the old Lois and Lana met crazy Superman split in half. So nice nod their.

I thought Lois came off as too much of a pushy broad. But the end was nice. Won't spoil it for anyone.

I was thinking about that earlier. I'm sure they won't sink to that level.

And about the flying, I read that the only reason they had it was because it was Kal-el flying, not Clark. If Clark flew it would change the show from Smallville to Superman.

I'd go up to Canada to audition for Kyle Rayner! No high-school or college student in this day and age is named Hal Jordan. If they use GL, it'll be Kyle.

As already reveal in some comic circles, Kyle Gallner ("The District") will play Bart Allen, alter ego of the speedy Flash in the episode "Run," airing in mid-October. Bart is described as a street kid who plays by his wits by The Hollywood Reporter. The character is currently only slated for a single episode.

eh, let it air. i haven't seen too much wrong yet.

they've remade lana, pete, lex, and lois, amongst others. even given new form to the former lana, former lois, former zod, and former clark.

i dig loeb's stuff. the first episode last week, and episode 2, thus far, are fantastic.

Another good episode. I really don't want the Lana tattoo thing to drag on too long though. Hope they do something with that soon.

And Lois's cleavage was good also.

Todays episode was good. The whole plastic surgery thing was annoying, but still a good episode. I am growing bored with Lana's boyfriend though.

I'd like to shove a bar of soap in the writer's mouth.

The "brand new couple" showering in the locker room together, it becomes known, and Chloe says "No worry, she'll be back in school next week." I guess they don't expel students for that anymore.

Lois could have said "You're a real pain in the neck." while kicking that woman. I don't disagree with what Lois said instead, I just can't see her saying it.

The innuendos are also wearing thin.

On the other hand, the lesson from this episode was more convincing with Lana's face dented here and there. I happen to know a few people that can learn a thing or two from this episode, at least without the above complaints.

I take back my first sentence. I'd make him eat the soap and then rub the rest of it in his eyes.

I heard the producers were told to do more Freak of the Week episodes (ala season 1) and I liked how they made the freak a leftover story from season 1 (Whitney and cheerleader Lana and more awkward Clark) that just took awhile to get her powers going.

Maybe Clark got tired of Lois reminding him every week that she saw him naked in the season premier, and asked Lex to get rid of her.

Didn't they already go the succubus route in "Heat" back in season 2 with the substitute teacher that instantly married Lex?

The conversations Clark had with his parents individually were great though, leading Clark and Chloe to be candid with each other by the end..

Plus, it's getting tougher for Lana and that coach guy (forgot his name already) to continue their hidden "relationship". I can't imagine having someone casually ask me "Are you seeing anyone?" and being unable to give a spontaneous and constructive answer. I predict Lana and that coach guy (still can't remember his name) will be discovered by accident, and the one to discover it will be Chloe, and this will happen before November 10th.

It was less than 5 seconds. I can't even remember what they said. Then at the end of the credits they said this episode dedicated to Christopher Reeve.

Yeah I caught that. Now that I think about it, they should have had the theme song to the movie playing while they did the end tribute instead of the usual white text on black background with no sound. But it was still nice regardless.

She'll be back, she just won't be in every episode this season.

The actress playing Lois is contracted for 13 (out of 22) episodes this season. If Smallville continues for a fifth season she'll probably be bumped up to regular status and be added to the opening credits.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the Clark/Lionel brainswap next week. I also liked the Flash episode, though. I thought they handled the character very well. I especially liked his exit line - "Maybe we could form a club or league or something." Cracked me right up. Makes me wonder if the actors get this stuff as much as the audience does...

I loved the flash effect, that was REALLY cool! Also, loved all the fake ids. hehehe

Yes, it does make one wonder if they get all the in jokes as much as us. I know I'd crack up if I was on set and I heard them say those lines.

Jay Garrick, Barry Allen, Wally West. I wonder if Bart wasn't lying when he told Chloe he was from the future. Either that or he was inspired by dreams much like the Gardner Fox of Earth-One, writing comics about Earth-Two.

You missed it?

Clark: "Chloe, this is my friend, Bart. He's from--"
Bart: "the future."
Chloe: "Really."
Bart: "Yeah. I ran all the way back in time to tell you that we're still in love a hundred years from now."
(Chloe laughs)
