Hogan wanted to make a cameo in Rocky III, but was told by Vince, Sr. that if he did so he'd never work in the WWF again. He went and did it anyway, and didn't expect to work for a McMahon again.
Unless you believe the Grimm and Doc Revised History of Wrestling version, in which case I believe Hogan was homeless until 1985 when Vince made him and wrestling, both of which were previously unmarketable.
