I post on a football message board and I thought I would create a topic for anyone who wanted to voice any opinions about the NFL draft, NFL off-season or the upcoming NFL season.

Will McGahee play this season?

Will Ken Dorsey be the next great 49er QB?

Why can't Minnesota get their shit together?

Will Oakland return to the Super Bowl?

Will the Jags finally make a bowl appearance?

Who the hell is Ryan Hoag?

My Off-Season Rant: Part 1

What will become of the N.Y. Jets now that they have been stripped clean in free agency? Why does hardship haunt the Jets?

Are the Chiefs for real? I haven't been this excited for KC football since Steve Deberg was the QB! I'm curious about the Priest's hip though...

Baltimore... Brian Billick will win or at least remain competitive with whoever he has... he's THAT good. [woooOOOOoooo!]

The G-Men look like they're making the right moves to become contenders... alot of it at the Eagles expense.

Buffalo, San Diego and Atlanta also are making some nice off season moves... looks great on paper.

Washington... I hate the owner.

Bill Parcells... is a genius and will always have my support anywhere he goes... but not in Dallas.

Jake Plummer... This is the year we find out if it was him or the perennially lowly Cardinals.

It would be nice to see the Bengals and Cardinals win... but they somehow won't. sigh...

I like Green Bay, I'd like to see them have another good run. This year determines wether Favre sticks around... or not.

I hope Detroit has one more horrible year so Matt Millen gets fired... then they can win. Go Mooch!

Patriots/Bill Belichick... see Baltimore above... and Belichick has better players.

Philadelphia wants to get better, so they hire... the Marty? This makes you better how, exactly? Ugh...

Pittsburgh could contend... as long as they're not picked to win. Finally got a real quarterback who doesn't hang the receivers out to dry. Stephen Davis would have looked good in black and gold... still need to patch that defensive secondary.

Miami, New Orleans, Indianapolis... I don't get it, it's like they try to lose. Can't figure them out.

Cleveland... The Browns could be serious contenders within the next 3 years barring major injury. Good, young team with a good coach. Also as a side note, they had the most entertaining games to watch last year. Check the stats, most of their games were decided in the last few moments of regulation. I'm thinking Holcombe at QB... I like Couch too, but the team seems to have a fire with Holcombe at the helm.

Seattle... Shaun Alexander is FUN to watch! When he blows up on the field it's amazing. The new stadium looks like it KICKS ASS! Add that to the list of stadiums I'd like to see a game in...

Ok, end of rant.

I love football.

The Packers should've drafted EJ Henderson. He was just what they needed, but I think they took the 40-yard dash times too seriously.

see above.

...

but, honestly, thats ok. there's something charming about routing for a winning-less team (though there's a lot more shitty about it!)

sitting with my pop, eatin fried chicken or subs (not "or," "and"!), and watchin the jets is somewhat of a past time on its own, regardless of their suckitude.

Not unless Travis Henry and Olandis Gary are both injured.

No. Absolutely not.

Why can't Minnesota get their shit together?
They can, and I think they will. They have all the parts to be an offensive powerhouse, and they had a great draft. Considering the division they play in, they could easily be a surprise playoff contender.

quote:
Will Oakland return to the Super Bowl?
Possibly. While San Diego and Denver made some big offseason moves, they also lost some of their big names. Oakland kept a majority of theirs.

quote:
Will the Jags finally make a bowl appearance?
In 2008, perhaps. They got their franchise QB in Byron Leftwich(personally I think Leftwich will have a better career than Carson Palmer will), and Vince Manuwai and Rashean Mathis. They need more help defensively, and they need a #2 receiver to compliment Jimmy Smith(Bobby Shaw looked like he might be the next Keenan McCardell, but he's gone now).

Who the hell is Ryan Hoag?
Mr. Irrevelant.

They'll be fine. Jets fans are such drama queens; when they win, it's "break out the gospel choir", when they lose, it's "the sky is falling".

They're exciting, but without Priest Holmes Dick Vermeil's offense isn't nearly as effective. Larry Johnson isn't ready to be a feature back in the NFL, his mechanics are embarrassingly poor for a Paterno-product.

Plus, they play in that ever-so tough AFC West.

quote:
Baltimore... Brian Billick will win or at least remain competitive with whoever he has... he's THAT good.
Having Ozzie Newsome and Marvin Lewis helps.

quote:
The G-Men look like they're making the right moves to become contenders... alot of it at the Eagles expense.
They're overrated. They have no defense, and if they didn't play in the second worst division in football, they wouldn't have made the playoffs last year.

quote:
Buffalo, San Diego and Atlanta also are making some nice off season moves... looks great on paper.
As I've said before, my SB prediction for this year is Atlanta and San Diego.

quote:
Washington... I hate the owner.
I hate the coach.

quote:

Well, Dallas also had a pretty good draft, getting Terrence Newman(giving them the best young secondary in the NFL) and Jason Whitten(who I think was best TE in the draft, even better than Dallas Clark, who was picked ahead of him).

If Michael Wiley beats out Troy Hambrick for the starting running back job, I think he could surprise a lot of people. He's quietly been one of the most productive players on the team for the past few years, and he deserves the chance.

quote:
Jake Plummer... This is the year we find out if it was him or the perennially lowly Cardinals.
Indeed. I've been one of Plummer's biggest advocates, and now it's time for Jake to back me up. I really think he's a Joe Montana in the making. He led Arizona to their only playoff appearance(and victory), and has engineered 21 4th quarter comebacks on a team notorious for never signing their big names(Aeneas Williams, Simeon Rice, David Boston, etc), and always being hampered by injuries.

Had to post this in two parts, I guess it was too long.

quote:

The Cardinals probably won't do much, but don't be so sure about Cincy. They had what I thought was the best draft, getting Palmer, Steinbach and two big steals in Kelley Washington and Khalid Abdullah. They have a solid offense already, and if Marvin Lewis can improve that defense, they should tremendously better. They might not make the playoffs, but they won't lose 14 games again, either.

quote:
I like Green Bay, I'd like to see them have another good run. This year determines wether Favre sticks around... or not.
They didn't use a 2nd/3rd round pick on a QB, and that tells me Favre will stick around for at least a few more years. He struggled at times last year, but he's still the best in the biz, and above all else, he's a competitor.

quote:
I hope Detroit has one more horrible year so Matt Millen gets fired... then they can win. Go Mooch!
I don't expect a whole lot from Detroit next year, but one thing's for sure; Joey Harrington and Charles Rogers will be a very exciting combination in Detroit for years to come, especially with a playcaller like Steve Mariucci.

quote:
Patriots/Bill Belichick... see Baltimore above... and Belichick has better players.
Rodney Harrison and Roosevelt Colvin are two big offseason pickups.

quote:
Philadelphia wants to get better, so they hire... the Marty? This makes you better how, exactly? Ugh...
Eh?

quote:
Pittsburgh could contend... as long as they're not picked to win. Finally got a real quarterback who doesn't hang the receivers out to dry. Stephen Davis would have looked good in black and gold... still need to patch that defensive secondary.
Oooh, they patched it up. Troy Polamalu was born to be a Pittsburgh Steeler. He will be an instant fan favorite.

quote:
Miami, New Orleans, Indianapolis... I don't get it, it's like they try to lose. Can't figure them out.
Indy will contend, Tony Dungee continues to improve that defense. With a healthy back the playaction offense will be in full effect next year.

Eh, I dunno. That defense is so talented, it baffles me that they're statistics are as mediocre as they are.

Seattle... Shaun Alexander is FUN to watch! When he blows up on the field it's amazing. The new stadium looks like it KICKS ASS! Add that to the list of stadiums I'd like to see a game in...
He's so inconsistent, though....

Three years ago Dallas traded two draft picks(and a lot of cash) for Joey Galloway. Those two draft picks were used on Shaun Alexander and Koren Robinson. Joey Galloway then missed the entire season with a knee injury, and hasn't returned to full form yet.

Oy.

Personally, I think Henderson was the best middle linebacker available in the draft; even better than Boss Bailey. It's absurd how much stock is put in 40 yard times. Ray Lewis ran a 4.8, and he's one of the best middle linebackers ever.
