No. Pre-Crisis he had a crush, nothing happened. Post-Crisis SHE had a crush, nothing happened. Unless Mark Waid rectumned that. In which case I hate him even though he's just a comic book writer doing his job in a way he sees fit that was never meant to please anyone, and I'm making him responsible for my quitting collecting empty pens forever. FOREVER!!!!!!!!

I finally read the comic in question...and was quite ready to completely hate it and store it in the back of my head as never ever happening when I realized it was a decent story that was a bit more adult than what we're used to. I have to agree with the G-Man that this tale destroys the original storyline as things are depicted as happening in a way that they did not happen in the original story. More importantly, the "death" of Peter's innocence is suddenly corrupted. Therefore I will dismiss this as a "What if?" story which is probably what we should all do-even to the point of Norman's return. God rest Gwen's soul in peace!

I'd like to enjoy BOTH genres Velo, and seeing as how ones more massively produced than the other, it would be nice AND convenient to be able to enjoy that one.

Well, that's mostly my problem Disco. It becomes his/her character after they get interested in it. A good example: Devin Grayson. And I have really strong feeling that if she requested it at a later point within this decade, she would have gotten her wish of a bi-sexual Grayson.

I can't see that happening any time soon. DC has a long-standing policy of never allowing anything so much as a hint that there is a homosexual relationship between Batman and Robin (and Alfred), and making Dick Grayson bisexual would cut a bit too close to that policy.

You know, at some point, the JMS's and Devin Graysons of the world are going to retcon and, bascially, fanfic these characters so much that no one wants to read about them.
They'll be too "mature" for young readers. They'll be too "sophmoric" for most adults.
And, basically, the ever shrinking cadre of adults who obsessively collect the characters will die out.
Eventually, interest in these hopelessly effed up, schizophrenic former icons will be so low that you can't even get a syndicated TV adaption out of them.

Let me say I don't buy the whole business of Gwen succumbing to Norman's charms either.
But I have a question for you, G-Man.
If Gwen had a "moment" with Flash or Harry, would it have bothered you as much? Given all of Peter's activities---the Bugle, Spider-Man, and the fact that Gwen had no idea of about the webslinging, and the fact that Flash and Harry were friends of hers, is it totally out of the realm of possibility that she may have sought comfort with one of them and then regretted it later?

Well, she was pretty close to both Harry and Flash for a while, before Peter finally asked her out. Flash was even a bit of a rival for Gwen's affections at one point, referring to her as "his girl" that Parker stole from him. Gwen was attracted to Peter from the moment she met him, though I don't think she was really sure about what she felt for him until they actually began officially dating.

Does someone have to succumb to someone's "charms" in order to have sex with them? I'm sure there are tons of people that just have a moment of weekness at a complete whim and end up making the mistake of having sex with someone and completely regretting it later.

I wanna answer this one!
It would still bother me, just not as much. The age thing and being Harry's dad is the part that pisses me off.

That's it, I'm quitting this forum forever. It's like my innocence is lost when the RKMBs ruin their characters like this.

Definitely not.
While such a liasion might have been problematic, it would not have, by its necessity completed undercut (and, by undercut, I mean "wholly fucked over") the second most important (the first being AF #15) Spider-man story ever.

This states my view as well, JLA.
I'm very careful what I buy these days because I've been disappointed with so much of what I've read in comics over the last 15 years. I don't want to contribute anywhere from $2.95 to $100.00 per copy to encourage the kind of excessively dark over-the-top/shock-value crud that smothers the comics market these days.
A poster on the DC boards a couple of years ago, Nine Pound Hammer, in discussing Frank Miller's DARK KNIGHT STRIKES BACK series as representative of an ongoing trend, called it "intellectually urinating on characters we all grew up with".
Most of the writers in comics now think that doing depraved things to well-known characters is some kind of great innovation, instead of the tired replacement for true creativity that it really is.
My local comic shop guy told me it gets even worse for the Spiderman mythos:
Apparently, one of the Bold New Visionary Writers at Marvel plans to introduce a revelation that Uncle Ben sexually molested Peter Parker.
To the editors at Marvel: What the HELL are you thinking ?!?
I'll continue NOT buying this Bold New Excrement as well.

Sleeping with your friend's dad is a pretty slutty thing to do.
Getting much more into it than that seems silly, since it's a fictional character.

Yeah, but that's a horse of a different color, and a reason why I'm not criticizing Animalman. That facet for Animalman is so incredibly blatant that even I would realize the air of obviousness is so heavy that there's no room for comment. But I'm concentrating mainly on the Ruckas and Graysons, the ones who take it too far and are currently dominating comicbookdom right now.
