It occured to me when I was watching it that the episode was set up as a possible series finally. Had they known it would be cancelled, they could have just left it at Syd and Vaughn going off to elope.

I don't think the show will last more than one more season. Networks are stupid, and they always think there is something better out there to run in the place of a show with a loyal fan base. ABC is no different. I will be very surprised if Alias sees a 6th season. As long as we get a full season next year, without timeslot shifting, I'll be very happy.
