Exactly. It would either be a revolutionary reinvention of the genre or it might as well be something else. Perhaps all things must truly come to an end.

Who knows? Goldeneye brought Bond back to coolness after a few uears of absence,Casino Royale could very well do the same....I'll just have to wait and see. There isn't a Bond movie made I didn't enjoy.

I think you mean Liscense to Kill and The Living Daylights. I wish Brosnan had those scripts to work with. They had just the right mix of everything that makes Bond great. They will probably always be the best Bond has to offer, since it doesn't look like tptb get it anymore.

Those who live in glass houses and all that jazz.

Isn't Tomorrow Never Dies the one where Bond fought Ted Turner? If so, worst fucking Bond movie ever. And Dalton was a shitty Bond.

First of all, as far as Brosnan's best, it had to be Goldeneye. The way it was filmed, the dialogue, the sincerity and danger in Brosnan's portrayal of this Cold War dinosaur. The added enhancement of an actor like Sean Bean matching equal caliber of talent with Brosnan. Very little real tongue-in-cheek. Deftly-shot and realistically-designed hand-to-hand fight scenes between 006 and 007. No real over-the-top, fantasy scenes, except for falling to catch that plane in the beginning. Finally, the concept of a rogue 00 Agent. Finally, a villian truly on par with Bond himself.

That's why Goldeneye is the primer Brosnan movie for me.

Second, I'm with Killconey on this one. For Bond to survive, it has to evolve. It has to become something more, and something different. Otherwise, it will simply become irrelevant, and be relegated to the background of 20th century pop culture.

You don't have to completely change Bond. You just have to change what the term "Bond Film" means.

My opinion? I would love, as suggested, to give different writers and directors their own shots at a James Bond film.

Let Guy Ritchie take a shot and make it cool. Then, let Quentin Tarantino get all nostalgic with it. What about Bryan Singer? Steven Speilberg. Tom Clancy. Fuck, even George Lucas. Well....okay, maybe not Lucas. But, you understand what I'm saying.

Let them all have a shot. See what they can do with him. Give them some freedom, but, of course, some base guidelines.

Bond, James Bond. Suits. Cars. Women. Guns. Fighting. Martini's.

Let go of the cheesier dialogue. Let go of the one-liners. Let go of the more ridiculous gadgets. Let go of that dude playing 'M', Judi Dench.

And, for the love of GOD....give us the Bond/Moneypenny sex scene at the end.

Give the storylines substance, and reality. Take storytelling risks (i.e. when Brosnan's Bond was captured and tortured). And, hey, a little nipple here and there wouldn't kill them.

All in all, make Bond into a real movie, not just a fantasy advertisement for product placement...

Pro, have you played GoldenEye: Rogue Agent yet? What do you think of their idea of a rogue agent? My roommate thinks they based GoldenEye on 006, but he's a little too brutish and a thug, as opposed to 006. I don't know if I agree with that. 006 has a little more sophistication than GoldenEye. Then again, GoldenEye got Pussy Galore, so maybe he's not just a thug after all...

I know what I want to see:

1. Sir Hopkins was orignally casted for GoldenEye. Give him a movie where can be the agent teacher gone bad.

2. Just let Alan Rickman be in a Bond movie. I don't care what he does.

3. I like Dame Judi. Keep her.

4. I'd like to see a Bond girl that begins as evil as shit (like Onatopp or that chick from Thunderball) but ends up redemable. And heck, let's put 'Pussy' somewhere in her name.

5. Kill another Bond girl. I loved Tracy so much...that death was intense, but it was also needed.

6. Bring back SPECTRE, or whatever the modern-day equal would be called.

7. Make a second Rogue Agent game. Okay, I admit, that has nothing to do with the movies...

Casino Royale must take place during the Cold War, otherwise the plot won't work. But latter movies taking place today must IMHO have Bond fighting terrorists. If Fleming's Bond could fight real-life villains such as SMERSH (the elite assassination squad of Soviet counterintelligence back in the day), then the Bond of today can fight al-Qaida. Then we can stop the nonsense about Bond not being relevant.

How many here have read the books? After searching the 2nd hand stores, I only miss 4 of Fleming's books, and I got John Gardner's "License Renewed" too.

It will be difficult for Bond to fight Al-Qaida because of political correctness!
The film makers would be too afraid to be seen as upsetting non-terrorist arabs!
Thats the reason Living daylights was withdrawn on DVD a few years ago!

CJ,as for a Bond girl that starts evil and is redeemed, you only have to check out Grace Jones in View to a kill!

As for Rickman, why he has not been used in a Bond movie, especially as a villain,is beyond me!

Wasn't the arabs in The Living Daylights on the good side? Sure, they smuggled whacky tabaccy, but they changed their mind about that...

Actually, the only Bond game I've played is 'Everything or Nothing' starring Brosnan, Heidi Klum, Willem Dafoe, and Shannon Elizabeth. It rocks.

Well, even if certain ethnic groups have been portrayed in a racist manner yesterday, doesn't mean we can't portray them in 3D, even if some are portrayed as villains. Most important thing is to portray people as individuals, not just members of some collective. If some of them are evil, they're evil because they're rational and still have choosen to do evil, not because they're part of an ethnic group.

Bond Girl Search Over

    Bond Girl Search Over
    Green, Wright Enter Sony's Casino.
    by Stax
February 16, 2006 - Sony Pictures has announced that French actress Eva Green (Kingdom of Heaven) has been cast as love interest Vesper Lynd in the next James Bond installment, Casino Royale. Today's official announcement brings to a close a long, highly publicized search for the next Bond girl. A string of big-name Hollywood stars and lesser known foreign actresses were linked to the role that eventually went to Green, who first became known stateside for her role in The Dreamers.

"Vesper is a pivotal role in Casino Royale and it takes much more than beauty to make this role work," said Amy Pascal, Chairman of the Columbia Pictures Motion Picture Group. "When you think about the great James Bond adventures, of course you think about action and espionage, but you need to have palpable sexual tension in the movie and in casting Vesper, we really needed to up the ante, because this character is very much an equal to Bond and central to our story. We believe Eva as Vesper, Mads as Le Chiffre and Jeffrey Wright as Felix Leiter are perfect additions to our cast and we couldn't be more excited about the way this project has come together."

Also officially cast in the film is U.S. actor Jeffrey Wright (Shaft, Syriana) as Bond's CIA counterpart and friend, Felix Leiter. Wright is only the second African-American actor to portray Leiter (Bernie Casey was the first in the unofficial Bond pic, Never Say Never Again). Leiter was maimed and written out of the series in 1989's License to Kill so Wright's casting confirms that the series will be rebooted with Casino Royale.

Other announced cast members include: Giancarlo Giannini as Mathis, Caterina Murino as Solonge, Simon Abkarian as Dimitrios, Tobias Menzies as Villiers, Ivana Milicevic as Valenka, Clemens Schick as Kratt, Ludger Pistor as Mendel and Claudio Santamaria as Carlos.

These new additions join a cast that already includes Daniel Craig as the big-screen's sixth actor to play 007, Judi Dench reprising her role as his boss "M"," and Danish thesp Mads Mikkelsen as the villainous Le Chiffre.

Casino Royale is now filming in Prague for a fall release.

Good nudes! Bond babe is into skin

The new Bond Girl is Green, Eva Green - and she's no shrinking violet.

The 25-year-old French brunette bared it all in an erotic drama, "The Dreamers," and her steamy sex scene with Orlando Bloom in "Kingdom of Heaven" was reportedly so hot it had to be pruned.

Now the producers of the Bond franchise are banking on Green to sizzle as the vampy Vesper Lynd in "Casino Royale" opposite the first blond Bond, Daniel Craig.

I've all the Fleming books now and Kinglsey Amis' (writing as Robert Markham) "Colonel Sun". That one was very good too. I hope the producers will adapt Amis' and John Gardner's novels when they've done "Casino Royale".

Daniel Craig has problems driving Bond`s classic DB5 during shooting

Daniel Craig stunned James Bond bosses when he couldn't drive 007's classic car.

Filmmakers had transported Bond's original Aston Martin DB5 to the Bahamas to shoot new movie 'Casino Royale'.

But the star confessed he didn't have a license to drive the manual car, which Sean Connery drove when he played the dashing spy.

The 39-year-old reportedly said: "Er... I don't do gears."

An insider is quoted as saying: "They've started shooting here and are using the old DB5, which is absolutely sensational. It was shipped over and was ready to go but then we found out he can't drive a manual car.

"You don't expect that with James Bond, to be honest."

Last year, Craig admitted he is struggling to overcome his biggest fear to play Bond - he's terrified of guns.

Am I the only one who thinks Craig is going to end up next to George Lazenby in the scrap heap of one movie Bonds?

Not only does he, as noted above, look more like Gollum than Sean Connery, but the press seems to be building a fair amount of anticipation that he is already wrong for the role.

Unless this movie makes more money than any other Bond film ever, I think he's finished before the movie even opens.

Reuters reports that Bond drives a bulldozer to dispatch at least one enemy.

Sounds more like a product placement than a plot point.
