I'm a HUUUUUUUUUUGE fan of science fiction but the majority of TV sci-fi is comparable to its equal in horse shit.
However... this show is EXACTLY what I've been wanting in a sci-fi tv show. Yes, I absolutely LOVE lasers. I LOVE energy beams and deflector shields and what-have-you.
But this is this closest we've ever come to straight-up hard military sci-fi I've ever seen. No goofy Star Trek technobabble. No retarded aliens. Just humanity, on the brink of survival, fighting as best they can...
I know a lot of people decry the obvious changes (like making Starbuck a hot chick, Boomer an equally-hot Asian chick, Apollo some pussy-fied wanker, whatever) but that's all you can say that's bad about this show.
As a remake of the original... OK. I'll give you that. It's not quite the same. But to be honest, the original series SUCKED something hardcore, and this new series is really, to be quite honest, original. Especially when compared to the rest of television's sci-fi CRAPfest (namely SG-1).
