I will see this simply because Ioan Gruffudd is in it. He rocks as Horatio Hornblower. Be still my heart.

I still have trouble figuring out what sence of logic dictates that 'Gruffudd' is pronounced 'GRIFF-ith'. I mean, I thought my last name got butchered a lot...

Oh wait...here's an explaination...sort of...

that sounds a bit perverted, i think they should cast only if they fit the role.

His name is spelt funny because it is Welsh. Welsh is a silly language which requires much phlegm to speak. He deserves your sympathy. All Welsh deserve pity in it’s most patronising form.

I am allowed to say this because I lived there for three years and have many Welsh friends. The English all like the Welsh (in an “aren’t they funny” kind of way) until t hey go there and realise that they all hate us.

Isn't that ironic? We think the same thing of the English.

And it's OK for me to say that because we beat you in two wars and then helped you out in two big ones in the last 100 years.

According to Variety Fox has now moved the release date of Fantastic Four from the July 4th weekend, to Friday, July 8th. The move will keep Four out of a head to head contest with Paramount/DreamWorks’ War of the Worlds starring Tom Cruise, and directed by Steven Spielberg, which opens on Wednesday, June 29th. The date of War of the Worlds was announced in the film's Super Bowl ad this past Sunday.

The announcement of the move comes as Marvel has seen disappointing box office openings for its most recent film, Elektra, which debuted in the #5 spot, and fell from the Top 10 within two weeks.

While killing the “4 on 4th” marketing angle the movie was reportedly to have, the field on July 8th may allow for a #1 opening, as competition at this point looks to be Universal’s Skeleton Key starring Kate Hudson and Sony’s TV adaptation, Bewitched starring Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrel.

This kind of thing makes me think this movie will be bad.

I read that the Bush Administration knew that the release date was going to be moved but gave orders for nothing to be done to stop it.

Fantastic Four

Julian McMahon visited this year’s WonderCon to talk about his upcoming role as Victor Von Doom in the Fantastic Four movie, now slated to premiere on July 8.

McMahon called the role a “childhood dream” and said he was honored to play the “greatest arch-villain of all time”.

In researching for the role, McMahon cited both the comics and the old Fantastic Four cartoon, which he used to watch on Saturday mornings as a boy growing up in Australia.

On acting behind a prosthetic mask, McMahon pointed out that the mask makes Doom a different person.

A clip was aired showing previously-unseen snippets from the movie. The clip reveals a source of Doctor Doom’s power that is different from his well-known comic book origin.

The scene shows Victor Von Doom after the incident in space which transforms both him and the FF. The doctor says that Von Doom's tissues are changing from flesh into a substance that is harder the diamond--in three weeks, his entire body will be transformed. The clip shows Von Doom murdering the doctor and making a flippant remark that he needed a second opinion.

Apparently in the movie version, Von Doom is a self-obsessed billionaire, "not unlike Rupert Murdoch" (the Fox exective cringed when McMahon said that). Also in a different take from the comic, Von Doom has dated Sue Storm in the past, and this creates romantic tension between him and Reed Richards. McMahon spoke about trying different accents throughout the film to approach an Eastern European flavor, yet in the clip shown, he spoke with an American accent.

McMahon spoke about seeing the Fantastic Four cartoons as a kid in Australia, then later reading the comics upon which they were based. It was quite amusing when a fan asked if Galactus was going to be in the second film, and McMahon had no ideawho
this was. "Yes, bring Galactus, I'll kick his ass in the next movie!"

In the movie, Doom has a “progressive illness” that slowly turns his body into living metal.

Also gone will be Doom’s Eastern Europen monarch status.

Right now I want to see flamer guy (or whatever the fuck his name is) flying around on the big screen. That might be worth the 8 bucks to see it.

Agreed. If nothing else, this'll be a fun way to kill a couple of hours. The FF characterizations seem like they're spot-on accurate (especially Johnny Storm), and it's interesting to see what they've done with Doom.

I may actually see this in theatres instead of waiting for it to come out on DVD.

It wouldn't be the first, or last, time Rex paid money for a flamer.

I'll never get over that shot of the semi hitting Ben.

What a great shot. Looks solid... I'll go for that alone, to see that on the big screen.

this looks much better than anything i've seen. there's still a lot i don't like -- most annoying off the top of my head was doom's mouthless mask. that was one of the more annoying parts of spider-man's green goblin. just never translates well from a panel to a movie screen (for me).

i still don't like the thing, at all (though i agree, the scene where he's hit by the truck is purdy damn cool)

alba might not be the greatest actor, but goddamn, is she hot.

the human torch sequences were either cool lookin or funny, so thats a plus.

visually, it looks great. great scenery, great effects. for me, much better than spider-man (i.e; stuff looks real).

overall, just looks like a fun flick. no matter what, imma see it

Reed was almost non-existent, so I can't really give an opinion.

Ben and Johnny were good.

Doom looked good but Julian McMahon just sounded too wimpy as Doom.

Alba wasn't bad, better than she's been in the previous trailers.

Even so, based on the Ben and Johnny stuff, I'm actually considering seeing this one now.
