Again, I'm not racist. I just think that when Wally West and Clark Kent spend all that time telling wonderous stories about growing up in middle-America, I don't need to hear about "black families" (as if there were such a thing).
I'm not racist, really. I just believe that if black characters don't act, think, and speak like their white counterparts, then causes tension in the stories. And that's bad for America.
I wish comic book readers were really this honest about it.

I think the problem is that, for the most part, there's no real middle ground with black characters. They're either "white" or "ghetto."
The closest any mainstream comic has come to making a good black character who was realistic was Steel. But then again, they had him living in the poor part of town fighting gangs.

How exactly would you dictate a turn base on when black characters should be atypical like Ice Cube or sound atypically white like Denzel Washington?
Personally, I think Jon Stewart's character doesn't try too hard to be atypical whitey or even shy away from the brother-type. I mean, considering the guy's been in Nam, his views of brotherhood would prolly standardize itself based on camrardarie alone and not the fact that he hung out with his family under the gun barrel of racial-profiling--But again, that's atypical black American.
You know, on a side note: If ghettos and all they encumber (including it's stick together philosophy) didn't exist, nor the poverty and racial seperation, I'd reckon that most people in the United States would sound "white". I mean, I'm not precisely sure if black guys have naturally deep voices, but I do know that some really high up well-bred African Americans don't maintain the usual deep-voice or a bit of a slur to their speech, both of which have a bit of menace to em'.

I've not had much to do with black American people (living where I do), other than seeing sailors when the fleet comes to port, and watching rap videos and video award ceremonies. I'm hardly an expert on American subcultural divisions.
But I have to say the only black character I've read in comics which came across as genuine was Amanda Waller in Suicide Squad. Even Black Panther, written by Christopher Priest (who I understand is a black guy) wasn't really a comic about a black guy - T'challa is a pompous king of an imaginary country.
Of the other characters, Black Lightning, Bronze Tiger, Vixen, War Machine, and John Stewart seemed just as superficial as most characters as superhero comics, regardless of any reliance by the writer upon a subculture to lend personality. Ambrose Chase is the other one who springs to mind, who was around for half an issue before getting shot dead ("The black guy always dies in science fiction movies," as his killer said.)
