I think it's terrible when some call others in here stupid because they don't agree with what those people are saying. I see it a lot. In here and other forums here.

In all fairness, both the Republicans and the Democratic politicians are babies. As you said on other thread, politics is supposed to be civil. Neither side was supremely civil during the election (or recent memory for that matter).

thats much more of a fair statement than simply claiming bush and company are significantly worse than everyone else.
a lot of the supposed "dubya supporters" here are actually just people tired of rampant bull shit from those who dislike dubya. hate bush jr? thats fine. he's not my favorite guy, either. but lets not, for a second, pretend that he is awful and clinton or kerry or whomever is perfect.
politicians are awful. dubya is just an example.

It's also important to remember: it's one thing to be a rough and tumble campaigner. But once the elections over, there's a certain anticipation (or at least there used to be) that people can at least be civil despite their political differences.
20 years ago, Ronald Reagan and then-House Speaker Tip O'Neill were bitter political rivals but could still respect and like each other enough personally to play golf together on weekends.
These days, that sort of thing would be difficult, if not impossible to see happen, especially given the way that "Bush LIED" and booing are considered policy debate.

I do feel that Kerry and the Dems are a much lesser evil than Bush. I don't like Bush, I don't like his family dynasty (his grandfather helped fund Hitler, his dad funded Saddam and Osama) and I don't like Bush's policies. That said, I think Kennedy was the last decent president the US had.

As I pointed out on another thread, Bush and company (through policy, words, and sometiems just his very presence) has caused a lot of "hurt feelings" in Washington.
Are they babies? Yes. But neither side is above reproach. Dems in Washington and Republicans in Washington just perpetuate the bickering and fueding. I think they do it because it allows them get nothing real accomplished but plenty of press time.

The whole reason we have at least two political parties is because not everyone is going to agree. Otherwise, we wouldnt need political parties, or elections, for that matter.
In accord with that reality, it used to be understood that the each side was going to promote policies and programs that the other side didnt like. But it wasnt take so personally and not to the point where the minority party actually considered the "presence" of a particular president to be offensive.

Personally, I think it'd be better if their were no parties, just people running on their own platforms.
I do think the more open animosity starts with Watergate. Then you have the October Surprise, which had Dems feeling that Reagan stole the election. From that bad feeling it festered for 8 years. Then there was Clinton who, to the Dems, seemed like a savior for the party. And the Republicans really hated him. Then in 2000, the election left more bad feelings and a view of Bush not being totally legitimate.
Basically, its a feud that got escalated and escalated until it became open hostility (on both sides).

But, like I said above, Reagan and his "opponent", O'Neill were able to be friends outside of work.

Things weren't as tense then. The "hick" who could connect to people better than Bush 1 and the "hick" who got elected by losing the popular vote and then acted smug about it(which you have to admit that Bush 2 does come off as smug).

and thats all personal opinion. you don't like them, so you don't want to like them.
others hated clinton. others felt clinton was a joke. others thought clinton was one of the worst presidents ever. and thats not just a domestic "others." ...and all that was personal opinion.
...and all that is fine! i'm not against that. that will go on forever, as long as people have a favorite soda or italian restaurant.
what i dislike (and im not singling out you) is the constant nagging on how bush is evil and how he and hitler are on the same softball team and how he tried to block out the sun from the town of springfield, etc, etc. all while longing for the would-have-been future with john kerry or al gore or a 4th term clinton, etc.
its nonsense.
politicians are scumbags. thats part of the game. they're all manipulative. bush panders to the religious? true! clinton panders (not "ed") to minorities. also part of the game. some play it off better than others. but don't disillusion yourself into thinking one side of the fence is the hatfields and the other is the huxtibles.

I've always been harsher on the guy in charge, because he's the one with the power. During the Clinton years I did have many issues with him ( especially the Elian Gonzalez raid). I am very troubled by Bush and his actions/policies. I think he is a corrupt man from a corrupt family with corrupt friends, and it makes me angry that he is in the presidency.

And I agree that Clinton panders (I agree with present tense) to minorities. That's the democratic base, since Johnson and the Civil Rights act, that's been the democratic "thing." But I'm a little more forgiving to someone who panders to a group that's been (and still is) screwed over, as opposed to pandering to a group who have a very large power base.
Like I said, I think all the politicians in Washington are just playing out a feud so they don't have to get any real work done.

Maybe Governors, but I would argue mayors can still be decent (depending on the person). Living in SF I get all the news on Gavin Newsom and Governor Ahnold. Newsom has done a lot of big things (though gay marriage is the only issue that gets national press) like initiating programs to help the homeless and crime-ridden neighborhoods. He seems genuinely interested in getting the city running without screwing anyone over. Arnold seems to get more and more corrupt and slimy by the month. Recently he's been at war with nursing groups. They want more staffs at county/city/state (government funded) hospitals while Arnold refers to them as "special interest groups" and actually said he'd "kick their butt."

Minorites, like the religous voters, are of a high number within the United States. That's all Clinton cared about. I mean, do you really think it was because they were getting "screwed" that he pandered to them?

but on the standards of power base, christians have much more sway and power. namely because they're an organized group of people. despite what charles manson might think all minorities aren't a single organized group.

They're not an organized group, but as people commonly facing diversity (as I'm sure Clinton put it in one way or another), they'ed vote for the (showingly) sympathizing candidate. They don't have to be organized to vote.

Christians are and organized group. They may not be one massive organized nationwide group, but christians are a series of small community groups. They meet weekly for services and often times the pastor/preacher/minister discusses political issues and urges the people to support a certain stance. Minorities don't generally meet weekly to organize shit (at least not in every community where they live like christians would). So, maybe Christians are a minority (numerically), but they're a very organized and active ruling minority. There are more christians (black and white) in congress than there are minorities.
