Zimmerman is OK, but he is obviously swiping from Wood to some extent as well as legendary "Cracked" artist Bill Ward:

She looks anorectic.

Yeah, Bill Ward's done some wild stuff. I remember seeing his art in Cracked as a kid, and then finding out about his long fetish art career years later. Crazy, man.

As a kid, Bill Ward's art really disturbed me. Even fully clothed his characters seemed really dirty and creepy, not titillating. at all.

as did his Warrior character. Guy Gardner was worset as a GL. Green and white with the red dickhead haircut.
As a kid I always thought Catwoman's purple spandex and creepy hair pouring out the back was stupid.
The first and second Robin costumes.
90% of the time when people draw Joker out of the suit design. Or any time he was drawn by Kelly Jones. Especially the KnightQuest storyline when Jones gave him a ponytail and artfag duds.

Always liked MEM's color scheme. Thought it looked good on Phoenix too.

...Why the Eighties? Through the seventies, the vital new standards and concepts brought into the medium by the innovations of Marvel (and, to a lesser degree, DC) helped drive material, but the Silver Age steam couldn't keep things going in the early eighties.
Change for its own sake brought about some of these pieces. For no particular reason, some creators in the early eighties simply did not have a talent for costume design; and the virtuosi of design, such as Simonson, Adams, Cockrum, and Kirby, were no longer as involved in company wide costume design in a way DC and Marvel needed them.
I think this is still true today. Very rarely does a costume redesign actually work. At best the company returns the character back to his/her classic look. I like many of todays artists but why can't they design better costumes? Warbird's recent redesign for example, it's functional but it's boring. She's a sexy woman, this costume negates that.

I can't decide if I really didn't like the black outfit Spiderman wore for a time. It was almost all black, looked good but it didn't really reflect his personality. The red and blue is both classic and a great design. The black suit wasn't really bad, it just wasn't him. The red and blue was him, It went well with the smartass remarks and bravado.
The green skirt - blouse - yellow mask Jean Grey wore as Marvel Girl was kind of dumb looking. The Phoenix green and yellow design was a definite upgrade!
Any time they messed with Superman's uniform, it just looked wrong. His outfit is as easily recognised today as it was 40 years ago. Changing it IMO is just wrong.
The Atom ( original golden age Atom. ) outfit was dumb looking.
Giving Atom Smasher a similar uniform was just as bad.
The Nuklon suit was ok, but with a bit of alteration, it could have been great. The blue mask that cover's Al's face now makes him look more like a terrorist.
I like Booster Gold's blue and gold suit...
And I actually loved the original yellow, gren and red suit Colossal Boy wore during the sixties. Several of those era Legion outfits were great : Ultra Boy, Mon - El, Matter Eater Lad, Brainiac 5, Saturn Girl, Ferro Lad, Cosmic boy, Shadow Lass, to name the ones I liked best... Timber Wolf had one of the least inspired action suits I ever saw. He did get a better one during the Cockrum era, though.
Loved Wildfire's uniform!
Most supervillains had very gay looking outfits during the 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's. What was up with that?
Notable exceptions were the Fatal Five, Parasite, and Galactus. Their costumes were great!
Loved the purple and yellow Goliath costume from the mid sixties. The Ant Man design was ok, and the later red and blue Goliath suit was pretty good, but the yellow and purple was more interesting. It made the character more dynamic looking.
Wolverine : I liked the brownish outfit he had for a time. The yellow suit looks too loud.
I used to draw and write my own comics, and I can tell you from experience, coming up with costume designs and pleasing colors is NO easy task.
I found the best thing to do was keep it simple.

Heroes tend to get the heroic color schemes while villains get the bad ones (green & purple)

I used to make my own comics myself. Even had a character called G-man in a group called the Other Ones. (He had gravity powers & was gay with a triangular G on his chest)

Neat group Beardguy. Sounds like you have them fleshed out pretty good. I'll have to dig out some of my old stuff & see what I've got now.

Thank you, Matter Eater Man. I have seriously considered drawing their adventures again. Maybe you ought to consider drawing your group again, too!
Morilla, the company that manufactured the sketch pads I used to use for The Champion's adventures, has gone out of business.
I used their sketch books from 1971 to 1990. They were a great size, paper was high quality. I'd draw in pencil, then ink over the pencil lines. Color was too expensive, still is. And too time consuming......
I have a pretty thick book now, but am certain the pages won't stay in..I will collect them, place them in order and after each 23 or 24 page story is done, staple them together.
And yes, I need to redesign a few costumes before I start another story.
Do you remember how in Lost In Space, two thirds of the way through the first season, they gave the characters cool looking new costumes? I need to do that for many of my heroes. I guess I can do that as I go along.
Have a pleasant evening!

Here's Ameriman from the Other Ones. Sorry haven't figured out how to use the Image feature correctly. I still tinker with the group off & on. I just use blank notebook paper & a pencil though. Some I've scanned in & putzed with in photoshop.

Ameriman looks and sounds pretty cool! What is his personality like?

Thanks. I figured he was your average nice guy, good head on his shoulders type who didn't let things get him down. A good team player. (I'll have to dig out my notes & the old home made comics for a better description) You may have restarted something Beardguy!

Matter Eater Man, creative people are supposed to encourage one another. Ameriman sounds good personality wise, too. I have two or three characters who can do the self healing bit. Grampa can heal himself and others. He can heal himself, it's automatic like Wolverine's healing factor. He can heal others and must concentrate to do this. He loves to help others but if he over does this, he can die because he uses too much of his own life essence at once. Warrior : age 15, He is 10 x as strong, agile, fast and resilient than a normal grown man. he has advanced fighting skills due to his parents being killed and being kidnapped by terrorists who gave him serums and injections to augment his abilities from age 7 on. He broke free of the brainwashing while on a mission to kill Grampa, who then took the boy into his group, Champions. Warrior can karate through solid steel, lift a car up over his head, and see and hear 10 x better than normal humans, and his sense of smell is 10 x more acute than a normal person's. His bones are hard to break. Think Karate Kid - Hourman - ( Old JSA guy. ) and Wolverine..but at age 15. He's very headstrong and has a quick temper. Warrior can self heal, but he must be alone to concentrate to use this ability. He is in love with Grampa's telepathic - telekinetic - teleporting 15 year old daughter. Huntress can self heal. It happens automatically. I discussed her in a previous post here.
