Carrie Ann Moss? CARRIE ANN MOSS?? No. I don't find her that sexy. Maybe if I were a necrophiliac, then maybe I would get turned on by Cryptkeeper Ann Moss, but otherwise, nope.

Charisma Carpenter would make a FINE Wonder Woman. She just needs to grow out her hair a bit.

You've just cast Catherine Zeta-Jones as Wonder Woman! Your comic-book blockbuster will have to cast unknowns in many of the supporting roles, because your A-list star will command a hefty salary. Your Wonder Woman will occasionally lapse into a Welsh accent and may threaten to sue your camera crew if it photographs her on the beaches of Paradise Island. Your movie will take in a boatload of money, and the sequel ("Wonder Woman Meets Zorro") will gross even more.

Wonder Woman set to be shot in Australia
Source: ninemsn

Wed May 11 2005

Look out Superman and Ghost Rider, Wonder Woman is set to touch down in Australia in her invisible jet.

Hollywood super producer, Joel Silver, has revealed Australia is at the top of his list as the shoot location for his next blockbuster, Wonder Woman the movie.

"When I make Wonder Woman I'll probably do it in Australia," said Silver, whose long list of profitable films, including the Die Hard and Lethal Weapon movies, have made $US5 billion ($A6.44 billion) at the box office worldwide.

    "I love working in Australia.

"It makes great sense to me."

Australia has almost become the New Jersey-born Silver's second home with the three Matrix films shot in Sydney and Ghost Ship and House of Wax on the Gold Coast.

    advertisement
The 52-year-old producer is also fond of Australians.

Silver hired Hugo Weaving to star and James McTeigue to direct his new action film, V for Vendetta, currently shooting in Germany with Oscar nominee Natalie Portman.

The Wonder Woman project is hush-hush at the moment, but Silver said Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon was putting the script together.

    Casting is top secret.

Silver would not be drawn into speculation about who might slip into the skimpy red, white and blue costume and bullet-reflecting bracelets Lynda Carter made famous in the 1970s TV series.

"No, we're not there yet," Silver said of the casting.

    "We're still writing the script."

The OC's Mischa Barton was rumoured to be a candidate to play the Amazonian princess warrior, and another American actress, Jessica Biel, who was in Australia last year shooting the action film, Stealth, has also been mentioned as a potential Wonder Woman.

A date for when Wonder Woman and her magic lasso might begin shooting also was not certain.

"There's no timeframe yet," Silver said.

"We've got Joss Whedon writing the script.

"When we have a script we'll make a decision about what we're going to do."

With Nicolas Cage filming Ghost Rider in Melbourne and American actor Brandon Routh in his cape and red underpants shooting Superman in Sydney, Australia has become a favourite destination for superheroes.

It's also a retreat for the hardworking Silver.

"I just wish Australia wasn't so far away," Silver said.

"I love being in Australia and I love making movies there. Australia is just a comfortable place for me to work."

If those women on the cover are the choices, I think maybe we ARE better off with Morgan Freeman as Wonder Woman....

My sister was flipping through the Batman Movie Wizard I was borrowing from a friend and she found the Wonder Woman page. First she said Demi Moore should be Wonder Woman. Then she said if it's going to be one of the girls shown in the Wizard, it should be the girl from Desperate Housewives. Oh, and she also doesn't understand why Mischa Barton is considered in the running for this role. She's the poster girl for anorexia. Well, one of them, anyway.

If she gained weight, Mischa Barton would be a good choice to play a younger WW. Everyone thought Tobey Maguire was way too small to play Peter Parker/Spider-Man, but he gained the muscle mass for the role. Renée Zellweger goes up and down in weight for Bridget Jones. If she really wants it, Barton can do the same.

I think she's hot now... even though I just found out who she was... Wonder Woman, no. At least not right now, but just about any celebrity chick can get up to Super-Heroine calibur with a hollywood trainer.

Whedon Talking Wonder
Written by Scott Collura

Thursday, 19 May 2005

Joss Whedon has already created a couple of pop culture icons with Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, and now he’s gearing up to revive a classic character with his big screen version of DC Comics’ Wonder Woman. Now Playing magazine chatted with Whedon yesterday, and during the conversation the writer-director-producer gave us a status report on the Amazonian princess. For starters, he says that the film will be set in the modern world – despite previous TV and comic incarnations that have placed the character in the past.

“It goes back to World War II,” he says of the source material. “This will be in the modern day, but Wonder Woman herself will never be in the modern day.”

The implication of the above statement is that the immortal Paradise Island denizen will be a fish out of water in the 21st century – perhaps like a good guy, hot version of the Judge from Buffy? (You remember – the Judge was that ancient villain who didn’t know what a rocket launcher was.) As for who will play the part of Princess Diana, Whedon says that he hasn’t even begun to think about that yet as he’s still busy finishing up his feature debut as a director, Serenity.

“[Casting] is the last thing on my mind and I’m happy to say it’s the last thing on Warner Bros.’ and [producer] Joel [Silver’s] mind too,” he says. “We’re like, ‘Let’s write the part! Then we’ll have a better idea of who’s good for it.’ And we’ve talked about whether it should be someone famous or an unknown. Ultimately there are advantages to both, so nobody’s thinking about that… except everybody.”

Whedon also sees Wonder Woman as being quite different from most of the other big screen superheroes.

“She doesn’t have a villain as recognizable as [a Lex Luthor],” he explains. “In fact, she doesn’t have a lot of things as recognizable as a lot of the other heroes have, but that’s not a problem simply because she’s basically based on Greek mythology, which opens up a world of interesting possibilities. She’s very different from anybody who might have been bitten by a spider or had his parents killed in an alley.”

But as enthusiastic as he is about the project, Whedon also points out that he hasn’t even started writing it. With Serenity, which is based on his short-lived Fox sci-fi series Firefly, blasting towards a September 30 release date, Whedon wants to fully concentrate on that project before diving into Wonder Woman. Which isn’t to say that he isn’t already thinking about where he’ll take the Amazonian once he does officially start working on her script.

“There hasn’t even actually been a whole deal signed and everything [for Wonder Woman],” he says. “I’m working on it in the way that I always work on everything which is that I think about it while I’m doing other things, but right now we’re in the final stages of wrapping up Serenity and that’s where my focus is. The reason I was able to take the Wonder Woman gig was that they don’t have a release date and they don’t have a schedule, and that means I have time to sit back and get it right. It will happen, but it’s not like ‘Bang, you’re ten weeks under the gun.’ The starting gun has not fired but I always jump the gun anyway. When you have a product that rich you can’t help but think of ideas for it, the same way I think of ideas for the Serenity sequel that may never happen. We don’t turn it off.”

Sure it does. It just implies that he's going with the 'fish out of water' angle. Diana will operate in a modern day environment, but stay true to her classical roots. It's much like Perez' take on the character.

    Whedon Talks Wonder Woman
    Serenity helmer talks next project.
    by IGN FilmForce
September 12, 2005 - Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel creator Joss Whedon is about to release his first big-screen feature, the sci-fi flick Serenity, based on the short-lived TV series Firefly. And with that film pretty much in the can, Whedon is preparing to fully devote his time to his next movie project, the long-awaited adaptation of DC Comics' Wonder Woman.

Whedon briefly discussed his plans for the Warner Bros. flick with ABC Radio National (per a report on Superhero Hype!) saying he's planning a fresh take on the classic character, but assured fans that he won't stray too far from the Wonder Woman that everyone knows and loves. "We'll meet a Wonder Woman who is similar to the one from the original comics and from the TV series to an extent," he said. "Neither of them are really a template. I've never loved the comics and I didn't watch the television series, but I loved the character very much."

He further explained, "She doesn't really understand this world, she's very strong but she's also very naive. She's not quite as little as the girls I'm used to writing, but she's definitely one of them in the sense of she'll undergo that kind of baptism of fire that used to be relegated to the male gender. She'll have to come into the world and see how corrupt it is and learn to deal with it and with her own powers. She is kind of, in a way, the grandma of everything I've been writing my whole life, so it makes sense that we should meet."

With a ridiculous number of actresses having been linked to the role over the many years of project development, there are still no firm leads on who may play the titular superheroine.

We'll let ya know when more develops!

So....wait a sec...if he never "loved" the comics (you know...where she's from), and, he never "watched" the television series, then....what "character" is it that he's "loved"? The Superfriends? The JL animated series? This makes no sense....
