Well let me ask this question, just got back from a two day date with a very nice African American man. We are planning on seeing each other again. <Thinking I may have brought this up in another thread> but my dad's side of the family (not my dad) is racist and they will disown me out of the family, if I continue to see him (they did it to me once while I was in Junior high, dad had to beg them to take me back into the family). Which is fine with me, I can care less about them. But what I am concerned about it the pressure they will put on my father. I don't intend on telling them anything. But this guy that I will be seeing again has asked about my father a couple of times and he wants to go riding with him (my father has his Harley and this other guy rides a BMW). So how do you approach a situation like this? I figure it is far too early to worry about people meeting. And if this guy wants to continue to see me, then I will tell him about my family. If he is still okay with things, then we can worry about the other stuff later.

But don't do that! :) Obviously, I'm a product of an interracial marriage, and the white side (dad's) of the family, never truly accepted me, let alone my mom. Eventually, feelings changed, but it took years. Plus, family is not the only problem. There are still hardcore racists out there who won't accept any "mingling" at all. Even here in this seemingly liberal state of California. A lot of daughter's fathers didn't like me on the fact I was mixed. After all that crap I wrote, there's no simple answer to it on how to tell your family. Just live for yourself right now.
