Depends on the certification and the state wans  Starting salary for a first year, certified teacher in Texas is $38,000 plus a signing bonus if you've passed the cert for math or science. (sucks to still be working on my math cert though ;p)!

Considering cost of living in Texas compared to Seattle, for you to make $38k would be like me making $80k now factor in every conceivable bank holiday add 2 weeks vacation for Cristmas and Spring break then 3 months vacation in the summer. That's a paycheck I wouldn't mind having.
