In the case at hand, it was a specific question, directed at a specific member, who answered the question and offered no elaboration. R3x didn't issue a board wide invitation to discuss the issue so, out of respect for the participants, I locked it.

why does wbam get to decide? what if i want to make comments? just because rx23 directed the conversation at wbam doesnt mean that i am excluded from commenting, also what if there are follow up questions? there will have to be other threads started to ask them. if the questioning was indeed done the thread would have drifted to the bottom on its own anyways, there would not be a need for locking. can you see the flaws in your reasoning?

The reason for, sometimes, changing thread titles is indexing.
Posters to the DT forum quite often want, or need, or should, make reference to an existing thread or want to rejuvenite or repost to an existing thread (look at the "It's not about Oil or Iraq" thread).
If the title of a thread is something that has little, if anything, to do with its subject, or is so generic as to mean pretty much anything, then the above mentioned search is very difficult to do.
So, sometimes, a title gets changed for clarity.
