You certainly can lie with statistics but anyone who knows statistics can see when something doesn't look right. The design of such a study would be quite difficult since you are trying to get medical type accuracy (low variation) on behaviours that rely on self reporting at the inception. Did I say that? Must have been a statistical analyst in another life.
