For a long while, I actually entertained those thoughts myself. "If only those gays hadn't pushed the issue THIS YEAR" etc. Then I remebered this:

And so what? People don't do something because it's an opportune time to do so. Because unpopular causes and fighting ingrained prejudices never are opportune. People do things because equality demands it. Whether they're politically safe things to do or otherwise. They may hurt our chances politically but that shouldn't stop people from stepping forward and being heard and DEMANDING their equality.
