Not easily and not in a way to preserve the movie experience for the vast majority of people not filming the movie.

Why would you bring a backpack to a movie anyway? Just leave the damn thing in the car, says I.

Don't you know what that can do to you? Shit, mate...you'd better read up! I've heard, from a very reliable source, that sodomy can bring on the apocolypse.

They can or they do? Big difference there.

They can. IIR my classes correctly, a ticket is like a license to allow you on the property to see the movie.

Wait - "gay sex" or just sodomy? Has there been any discussion on lesbian sex? Cause that's gay sex too....

...or, uh, so they tell me...

Seriously, though, I have heard that at least one pirated copy of the film was most likely an inside job. Those seem to be the most successful piracies, and since they're the highest quality, they are the most in demand online. What are they doing to crack down on thater employees?

These Moive Picture companies are always watching for the piracy of the In house copies. But too many people in the companies have access to the content and all it takes is one person to rip it down and post it. A lot of the screener copies that get sent out have a rolling bar across the bottom of the film that has a s/n# on it. So they knew who had they copy. But if it doesn't have it yet then you know it was copied before they were sent to screeners.

It is illegal. Thats why when I told them I wouldn't let them search my backpack they let me get a refund. If they were honest, they would have told me they were going to search my backpack when I bought the ticket.

No, I don't think its illegal. Like I said before, your ticket is a license to enter their property to see the movie. Hence, they can dictate the rules of that license. They gave you back the money because you didn't want to comply and were going to leave the theatre, not because what they were doing was illegal.

I do not believe it is illegal for a cinema to deny you entry if you will not open your backpack or purse upon request.

Go into a concert venue with a pack, and you'll be asked to allow a search. And if you deny it, you will not be allowed entry. A ticket gains you entry to a venue, but not unconditionally.

Stadiums are more sophisticated. They will scan you with a metal detector (or three), and then ask that you remove any offending devices. That's a world of different from the 'open-and-search' policy that the theater seems to be running. One respects your privacy, while the latter does not....thus it is illegal.

Maybe in Canada, but that's not how the law sees it here. Moreover, both are searches of your person adn property, one just seems less invasive, that's all. I actually got curious enough to do a legal search on it - and it turns out that my memory from law school was right.

Fourth amendment searches are to protect you from illegal searches from the government. That is not what happened here and hence, the 4th is not applicable in this scenario. A movie theatre is private property that gives you, the public, a license via a ticket, to enter private property. A license is a personal privilege to do some act upon land of another not involving possession or allowing you an ownership interest in that property. It is usually revocable at the will of the licensor (here the movie theatre). An admission ticket is considered by law to be a revocable license to (for ex.) witness an attraction - here the movie. If the license is revoked - for failure to comply with the rules of the theatre - (or any venue you seek entry upon stadiums, theatres, amusement parks, etc)- the license holder's recovery (Rex) is limited to the purchase price of the ticket.

When I go to Comerica Park with a bag of any sort I have to allow them to search it. It's not a big deal. I would rather every bag be searched than some piece of shit be able walk through with a bomb. That's why they need to search bags. Now, when I go to the Copa, they don't take everything out, they just look through it. It helps if you tell them what's in it so that they know what they are looking at and feeling. If you don't want your bag to be searched, don't bring it with you.

I've known of incidents like this to happen, but never to me. When I went to see "Spider-Man 2" on opening day, I brought a bookbag full of Spider-Man comic books to read while I was waiting in line and wiating for the movie to begin. Nobody tried searching my bag or said anything to me about it.

I've even gotten away with some genuine sneakiness. When I was a kid and went to a theater near my karate school with my dad, we'd stash a bunch of snacks in a bag and put my karate uniform over them. When some friends and I went to see "Terminator 3," I stashed a bunch of snacks in the inner pockets of my raincoat and completely got away with it.

And you wonder why you don't date much?

Dude, leave the comics at home, open the top couple of buttons on the shirt, flash some chest hair and wait for the ladies to melt into those big brown eyes.

Or bring the comics and learn to love masturbation.

My dear fellow queer, no, it is not.

And I've been to some stadia that scan and others that request the opening of parcels. It's not a big deal. If you don't want to acquiesce, that's fine, but don't expect entry into the premises.

Perhaps I'm wrong...I can't remember the last time I took a bag out with me (besides to or from school...or hiking)...so my impression of the situation might be dead wrong. I know that a shoppe and a bar cannot, under any circumstance, force a search...so I assumed this would extend to a theater.

I can understand them not wanting a backpack in the theater, but if as you say alot of bus riders and people with backpacks go to that theater then it would make good buisiness sense to offer a place to check it in for those who didn't want to have it searched. Remember though a theater is private property they have the right to make the rules as to what is and isn't allowed on thier premisis.

As fas as outside food and drink, it's been my observation that teh big chains could really care less what you bring in. I've long since given up trying to hide my food and drinks and have taken to see how obviously I can bring it in. I've done ice cream, sub sandwich and Starbucks, If I'm going to do something as trivial as candy I try to flaunt it as best I can, Like filling up my pockets then when I go to the ticket ripper I empty it all out infront of them in order to get my ticket, sometimes even asking them to hold it while I fish out my ticket.... never done a pack though.

That's strange, WBAM. My pals worked for the local cineplex and they were telling me that the theater itself gets the bulk of its profits from concessions. That's why the employees didn't care to give me and my friends free tickets since they were staying in the black just on the concession sales.

I could be wrong, but that's the way I understood it.

Thats the way it is for all theaters. I think the majority of their profits actually come from the popcorn.

No, that's true, but in a huge chain like that the employees just don't give a damn. Infact with many movies the theater makes no profit of ticket sales. I mean, even with all teh stuff I bring with me I still get pocpcorn sometimes because fresh popcorn tastes good and I usually forget or don't bother to bring soda, because uless I plan in advance it's difficult to to bring such large quantities of ice cold soda in with me. Plus for most suckers the sign is enough to scare them off. Also I have to be sneaky when I go tot eh independant theaters because they tend to be cany Nazis there.

Thats the way it is for all theaters. I think the majority of their profits actually come from the popcorn.

They prolly make a hundred dollars for every penny of popcors kernals considering the bulk they buy it.

I can understand them not wanting a backpack in the theater, but if as you say alot of bus riders and people with backpacks go to that theater then it would make good buisiness sense to offer a place to check it in for those who didn't want to have it searched.

Nice idea, but it means the theater has to commit more space to what amounts to a "coat room." This all would translate into higher ticket prices for everybody.

What is the big deal about having a backpack searched when you're going into somebody else's premises? If you have something in there that's incriminating or embarrassing, then don't bring it.

I sympathize with bus riders, I do. But even I as a driver know full well if I bring a backpack in anywhere, I'm subject to the Proprietor wanting to be sure I'm not using it to rip him off.

When i was thinking of the pack check, I was figuring the small # of packs I see at the movies divided by those nwilling to open it for inspections. I figure most most movie goers leave the granny porn at home.

How? Five minutes without withered twat is too long...And you expect them to go for several hours? Have you no compassion?
