I agree it makes sense to have his face all wacked out, but not like that. It was apparently supposed to be Joker slicing his face open after getting bleached and shit. Somehow I don't see THE Joker doing that. Plus, as he has been established up to now in the comics, he's quite debonaire and especially must be if he could ever hope to attain a hottie such as Harley. That kind of physical distortion and self-mutillation does not fit with Joker's character and I will be sorely dissappointed if they resort to it.
