See, in my mind the Joker should just be absolutely horrifying. The comics with the Joker that I love are the one's where he's doing something absolutely insane for no rational reason... because there is no rationale in his mind. I'm not sure I would have a problem with the Joker mutilating himself personally... but I can see how other fans would. It's just the differences in our Joker preferences...
