Finally some rumors worth running with for y'all. Trust me, I get tons of "scoops" everyday. However, what I've got today is from people I know and trust, so I decided to pass it along to y'all. Remember, this is nothing official, just the "inside scuttlebutt" I've heard of late...
As I imagined, the production of THE DARK KNIGHT is under the highest of security. There’s been nary a word about the production since the title and Heath Ledger would be playing The Joker was announced. Honestly, this is the quietest it has been since the end of BATMAN BEGINS‘ theater run...
The word is that Liev Schreiber is not/no longer in the mix to play Harvey Dent -- which I hope is not true because he’s long been my fave for the part…
Now some of you all will dig this -- sort of blast from the past, so to speak. Guy Pearce’s name has popped up again as a candidate for Harvey Dent. Methinks his past association with Chris Nolan (MEMENTO) is again at the root of this rumor. I do think Pearce would be a nice choice, but I'm not holding my breath…
The talk is that more official casting news will come soon, perhaps around the time THE PRESTIGE is released to cash in on the hype. And that works vice versa as well -- you know what I mean? So keep an ear to the wall around the middle of October.
Dear, sweet Harley Kwink...I'm madly in love with you. Marry me! We can go to Canadia. Or Boston or something. It'll be grand...You know the cookies are a given. They are ALWAYS a given. You could dump me tomorrow and you'd still get the cookies. Boston..shit, wherever dyke weddings were legalized. And where better to rub their little piggie noses in how bad they suck than right on their doorstep? What are they gonna do? Be jealous of you? Stare furiously at your tah-tahs? Not willingly give you cookies, but instead begrudgingly give you their cookies? Woman, time to wake up to the powers you wield - Uschi

does anyone else think that doing a batman movie with the joker might not be sucha good idea, as it will lead to non-stop comparisons and critiques versus the original 1989 blockbuster performances?

Could do worse, no doubt. But, G-Man's going to have a stroke if Liev isn't cast...

How can there not be a Joker/batman film? He's one of the most well known villians ever. And I may be in the minority here, but I never though Nicholson's performance as the Joker was all that. It was ok, and had a few moments, but I expected more - it just came off as too campy to me.
It'll prolly never happen, but for a Batman/Joker movie, I would love to see them do The Killing Joke...

The end of BEGINS is already confusing the general public. I keep having to explain, in regard to Joker being in the next movie, that the new movie(s) are a reboot.
Then I have to explain what a reboot is.

How on earth can the ending be confusing to the general public?
Seriously.

Rob: No, I think it will be welcomed. For example, when Begins was released the comparisons were made and found highly in favor of Begins over every other Batman movie in existance. Nicholson(sp) played a dynamic character, but he didn't play Joker, really. Just like Keaton wasn't really Batman. 'Cause he's short and kills people.
Jeremy: Stop talking to stupid people. If they have a computer they ought to know what it means to "re-boot." Call them twats and walk away.

I've had to explain that too. I think the problem is that after watching the Star Wars prequels people assumed that the makers of BB were trying to do something similar (that is, base the whole movie on links to the old ones). Superman Returns probably enforced that notion, too.
It's obviously gonna be confusing to the general public to see a movie where Bats meets the Joker for the first time, if they already saw that in the 1989 movie. But fuck 'em, I say. They're only gonna let that annoy them if they want to.

By the time the next Batman movie comes out, it will have been nearly twenty years since the Nicholson-Keaton movie, which came out nearly twenty years after the West-Romaro TV show was cancelled.
I think people can understand "remake" if nothing else.

Fuck no. If Begins does anything it allows me to forget that Burton ever directed a Batman movie. Dark Knight will only assist in that.

There are now rumors of costume changes for the new Batman flick, though even Ain't It Cool doesn't put much stock into it: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/31822Quote:
Merrick again...
I don't recall running across this too widely...the only place I found reference to it was HERE...although our tipster makes it sound like the changes to the new suit are more dramatic than posited in the article linked above.
Aonemantidalwave sent in this snippet regarding a recent encounter he had with someone working on THE DARK KNIGHT. I've tweaked this message to avoid revealing the identity of the person working on the film.
MINOR COSTUME-RELATED SPOILER AHEAD!?!?
Both Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan have seen a new Batsuit & there's been a fitting.
I told this person how I didn't particularly dig the suit in Batman Begins and said it was too bulky. To this he/she replied, "Well then you'll love the new one." He/she also stated that Bats changes his suit halfway through the film - and its a major plotpoint as to the how and why this happens.
He/she sadly, had no news about the Joker's get up.
This source is new to us, so keep that in mind when contemplating the vast array of costuming possibilities here.
If I'm repeating something that's already widely known, my apologies.
The place they link to is Cinematical.
Quote:
Finally, a tipster wrote in to Batman On Film claiming they've heard Batman's costume will be altered for the sequel, in an attempt to mimic the changes Bruce Wayne would make as time evolved. Says the tipster, "The appearance will not change dramatically, but will be lighter and sleeker than the one in Batman Begins. It may also be constructed to look more like heavyweight fabric and armour than rubber."
That site also seems to believe that Katie Holmes will have a substantial role in the new movie.

Agreed.
Burton's BATMAN was nearly 20 years ago.
And it's time someone washes the taste of those movies out of our mouths. BATMAN was really THE JOKER. And BATMAN FOREVER was just "let's be disgusting with Danny DeVito." And the two that followed those don't really need to be mentioned at all.
BATMAN BEGINS got it more right than any other BATMAN film.

Yeah, and Pfeiffer's Catwoman and Devito's penguin was yet another semi-dead to dead, pasty, white burton imagining of a character. Seriously, Joker, penguin, Catwoman, edward scissorhands, The guy from sleepy hollow, nightmare, and corpse bride all have those dead goth characters. Burton must be a necrophile.

I just take Batman in the movies the same way I take him in the comics. Every era is different. And, no single era is the absolute essential definition of him. They all have factors I agree with or enjoy. And they all have things I would change.
Say what you will about the plot, and Jack, but I dug the absolute shit out of Keaton's Batman character. His silent, disturbed nature, along with the amalgamated 1940's designs, practically oozed the pulp feel of the original Bill Finger/Bob Kane Golden Age-"Batman". This is the sincerely traumatized avenger of the night that had zero problems cracking necks and dropping guys off rooftops.
Then, we drifted into the silly, outlandish 50/60's Silver Age. Both Kilmer and Clooney's movies reeked of the ludicrous camp that dominated a decade of goofy gadgets, horrible one-lines, a joking Batman, and the always beloved outer space adventures.
Bale is awesome, and perfectly fits a late-Silver Age Neal Adams niche, as well as the Frank Miller's Bat from YEAR ONE.
Unfortunately, we haven't gotten to the over-paranoid, uber-prep-time, godlike Batman from Morrison's era..

Y'know, ever since Salma got engaged, you've been...less relevant.

You need to drink again.

He is far above mentions in so-called "blogs." RACK him, lest ye be lost! "I can't even brush my teeth without gagging!" - Tommy Tantillo: Wank & Cry, heckpuppy, and general laughingstock

Oh, sure, the love of his life is knocked up with another man's child and you kick him while he's down...real nice, Joseph Mothern real nice...
Piggie, look at the bright side, her tah tahs are only gonna get bigger while she's preggers...
As for the whole Maggie/Katie question - unless they are playing Catwoman or Talia I which clearly they aren't, the character is bound to be extraneous...and fug to boot.
