i think the main scare here was that the bad doctor was now on his way to figuring out everyone's alt (through the transitive property, starting with sue and EM)
The problem with that theory is that, quite simply, Elongated Man NEVER had a Secret ID. In fact, it was established that he was a "celebrity superhero," who would go on talk shows and write books as "Ralph Dibny, the World Famous Elongated Man" Furthermore, Sue was a celebrity before they got married. She was the daughter of the one the DCU's richest men.
Basically, Ralph and Sue were, long before the Satellite Era JLA, one of the DCU's most famous couples, sort of the Bennifer or Brangelina of Earth One.
Therefore, Dr. Light, along with every villain around, not only knew Ralph's ID, they knew who he was married to.
As such, if there was any way to figure out the rest of the JLA's Secret IDs simply by knowing Ralph's, everyone in the DCU, not just a few supervillains and Batman, would require a mindwipe.

though true, i believe this was moreso the revisionist take, re-telling the scenario, and exposing the more vulnerable side to "civillian life" for the heroes. heroes and all their friends and family were now no longer safe, at home, at night, on holidays, etc.
a "plot hole" that was always there, perhaps, but only now was it being exploited, as dr. light crossed the "silver age line."
so now, assuming that, dr light was an eternal threat to sue, the representation of every hero's friends and family. even if he rotted away in prison for 20 years, the moment he was out, he'd be at their door.

Yeah, hitting Bats was a little out of line. Not that the facist doesn't occasionally deserve a little of his own medicine though...

To me, these heroes with their great abilities had other options, setting aside the Phantom Zone or indeed the vagaries of prison rape by Light's fellow convicts.
Green Lantern had previously used his ring to put ablock in Major Disaster's head toprevent him from revealing his secret ID. (It drove MD somewhat nutty as depicted in GL #190 or thereabouts, but GL wasn't to know that at the time).
No need to wipe his brain: just put a mental block in it preventing him from talking about it. If GL couldn't do it, Zatanna could. Or whistle up Martian Manhunter to do something with his telepathy.
Or jail Light in a jurisdiction where no one speaks English, or where there are no supervillains to use the information Light could give them. The offence was committed in orbital space, not in the US. Take the fucker to Mozambique for trial, JLA, and let him talk about it to his heart's content.
Batman's anger had a point. Afflicting a captured felon with magical brain surgery is not exactly standing for truth justice and liberty. And zapping Bats was entirely unforgiveable.
Setting aside the OMAC Project, I'm kind of looking forward to Batman confronting that group. I think Deathstroke's efforts might be kind in comparison to what Batman might do, especially to Zatanna.

there's been some start-off confrontations in green arrow, young justice, and directly in JLA, featuring a hawkman - batman standoff, in the cave.
really, i just love how these stories are overall turning out, where all heroes are seemingly being forced to question a line; did the jla cross a line with dr light? did wondie cross a line with max lord? did bats cross a line with the brother eye?
good times.
i'm really enjoying the new element of total uncertainty.

They say "Change is a comic-book-fans worst Nightmare"
What I say is "Fuck whoever originally said that". The DCU's changing and im genuinely excited about something in the industry for the first time in ages
I just hope this underlying factor stays minorly constant and we dont slip back into the scourge of the Staus-Quo after Infinite Crisis

WW fragging Lord was a nice plot twist, but hardly surprising for a character who has killed before. Similarly Bats had his protocols long before he had OMAC. This is the interesting thing about all of this - it is a natural extension from existing plot elements.
Supes has killed before too - the three Kryptonians in the pocket universe. I wonder if that will be a recurring theme.

Yes, because they do not surrender. Once you give up, Bats doesn't knock your teeth out.

Use of reasonable force to restrain a violent felon is not only entirely acceptable but legal. Also makes for good comic book drama.
Given a captured prisoner the magical equivalent of brain surgery because they don't like the idea of him bragging about his offence in prison is another level of conduct.
