The Lions just find ways to lose. Here's my biggest problem with Harrington. This is not the first time this season that the game has been in his hands. This is also not the first time this season that the game has been lost in his hands. I've seen too much to not be sure about him. I don't think Garcia can do any better with this team, but I know that Harrington is a bust. If there is one thing the Lions are really good at, it's drafting below average quarterbacks. Add Harrington to the long list of never should have beens.

The thing is, it wasn't just Harrington breaking down. Last night on the Detroit Sport's Report they showed four different plays that broke down four different ways. First, Harrington dropped back from the snap, but the line let the blitz through. Second, Harrington was protected, but he threw a crappy pass. Third, Harrington was protected, but his recievers didn't get themselves open. Fourth, Harrington off the perfect pass, and it was dropped. What they didn't show was fifth, the runningback runs into the offensive line because it can't make a whole for him. That's five different break downs, and one or more of them happens on almost every play. There is not doubt the offense won't play for Harrington, but do they have what it takes to play for Garcia? He's on the radio every Monday at 4 talking about the Lions, and I like what he has to say. He's clearly a strong leader, and he knows his stuff. He sucked in the preseason, but that's the preseason. I'm not holding out hope that he can turn this team around, but it's been done before in other cities, so I don't see why it can't be done here. I just know that the team has tuned Harrington out, and that was before the recievers got hurt. He's finished in Detroit, and maybe in the NFL. Although, if Rodney Pete could find some life in Carolina, maybe there is hope for Harrington somewhere else out there.

I'm sorry to see that the Lions have taken over from the Bengals as the laughingstock NFL franchise. I mean, somebody had to do it, but sorry it was the Lions. I'd rather see it be the 49ers.

I would think most people that know anything about football would say the Vikings are by far and away the biggest laughing stock and/or disgrace in the NFL right now.

The Lions have, recently, years of bad play to their credit.

The Vikings have had some offfield issues over the last decade, but at least onfield, they've been competitive or better.

"Most people that know anything about football?" Like I'm some noodge about football? Now, PJP, I'm angry.

The Lions have been this way for 40 years. How long were the Bengals like this? Not 40 years. Therefore, the Lions haven't taken over for anyone. There are still, and seemingly will forever be, the Lions.

What about the Cards? Have we forgotten how much they suck? And they should be better too, at least offensively. They have the receivers, the back potential, capable quarterbacks. But that O Line... le barf.

While the Lions have not won a title during the Super Bowl era, they do have championships from the 50s.

They also made playoff appearances in the 80s and 90s.

People seem to dish on Wayne Fontes, but his teams made the playoffs quite a bit of the time.

Millen and Mariucci have lost this team. Harrington seems utterly lost (there was a recent SI.com article, I believe, stating that Harrington doesn't call the protections and that really all he's expected to do is throw the ball or hand it off...this is a far cry from just about every other NFL QB).

I feel for you, it's an unfortuante situation. I like Harrington. Liked him in college. Thought he would make a good pro. But clearly, they need Garcia in there, someone in whom they can have confidence.

Considering that Little got drunk and hit and killed another driver back in '99, I'm not wholly sympathetic for him at this time. Maybe there is such a thing as karma...

well sorry to say but your bengals just aren't ready. they gave up 221 yards on the ground at home. They are still a good team but it only gets tougher from here. They have to play at the steelers, KC, and Baltimore. Oh yes and the undefeated colts are coming to town

It's only one game, and only a fool gets excited over one game, but man oh man, the Lions offense looked a little different yesterday. And by a little, I mean a lot. It's far from perfect, and Garcia was left with one reciever by the end of the game. However, a few solid practices with Mike Williams, and Garcia will have his go-to guy. The scary thing is Mike Williams, the rookie, is the only one of the three number ones who looks like a number one. Roy Williams has an attitude problem. Charles Rogers is an ass, although I will give him the benefit of the doubt. It could be that this turns him around big time, especially since he'll be coming back to the field with Garcia as his quarterback. Still, I think the rookie will be Garcia's guy. The big thing is that the offensive line played for him. They trust him to make plays. It's going to take a few weeks, but if the defense can keep them in games like it did yesterday, the offense just migh come around. I'm not saying this team will do anything more than make the playoffs, but there is still time for key players to get healthy, especially on the offense, so there is still time for Mariuchi's West Coast offense to come together for Garcia.

Whaver happens, one thing is clear: PJP is right about Garcia. He knows the offense, and he's just a really smart quaterback. I just hope he's got another year in him, cause the Lions are going to have to groom a new quarterback. Maybe Orlovsky will be that quarterback, but they need Garcia to stick around for bit right now, cause it's going to take him time to learn the system. It will definately help him to see it played the right way. Maybe if Harrington would have had a veteran to learn from he'd be the right guy for this team. Maybe. Lot's of maybes.

Thank you, yes, I know the schedule. They have to crawl before they can walk and they know it.

One game at a time and they're still in first in the division at 5-2. After 14 years of basically terrible, 5-2 looks pretty damned good.

I just wanna go back to the wideout conversation for a bit...

Is there a trio on any other team that you can see being a cohesive unit like Harrison, Stokely and Wayne? Obviously Rogers, Williams and Williams have talent, but no group concept (yet). Johnson, Boldin and Fitzgerald in Arizona seem to be their opposites in a manner of writing; group concept is adhering, but a lack of realizing their talent (with exception to Boldin). Who else is there?

The Bengals feel they have a special unit in C. Johnson, T.J. Housh...(don't make me spell his last name), and Chris Henry.

But I'm not sure how long it will last. Glenn and Keyshawn are not young guys anymore. And neither is their quarterback.

Yes, I'm sticking with my Lions. But, this time, it's not because I'm hoping for a win. I really don't know if Garcia can turn this team around. He's not the same guy he was at the beginning of the decade. He's older, and he's probably only one big hit away from sitting for the season. However, the young players on this team bought into him last week, and they were amazed at what he could do when the play looked like it was dead. In situations where Harrington would give up, Garcia got first downs. That takes a lot of pressure off the offensive line with them knowing Garcia can move back there, so they don't have to second guess themselves on every play. They know they don't have to be perfect, and that could lead to them getting close to perfect in a few more games, as the offense starts to jell. He's short on recievers this week, but with Mike Williams as the only guy he can really work with leading up to the game, that kid has a real shot and doing some big things. And with Rogers coming back next week, he'll have at least two of his three wr's. If Rogers really is serious about turning things around, then Garcia is the best thing to happen to him, because his leadership will make that a lot easier. That doesn't help so much this week, and I don't know that Roy Williams will improve under Garcia. He could just be a big mouth. But if he gets healthy soon, the Lions may actually look like a football team.

I think the Lions just played their way out of the playoffs. That, or the media is right and they were coached out of the playoffs. I think it was a bit of both. In the end, it doesn't really matter, cause they're still the Lions. Until the Fords sell, they will always be the same old Lions.

I think the Lions just played their way out of the playoffs. That, or the media is right and they were coached out of the playoffs. I think it was a bit of both. In the end, it doesn't really matter, cause they're still the Lions. Until the Fords sell, they will always be the same old Lions.

We got bonus coverage of the end of that game after the Bengals beat the Packers.

Damn. That was ugly. Garcia always plays on as much guts as talent, but damn, to lose like that. He was trying to do too much.

The Bengals come to Detroit in December. I think we're gonna beat you guys.

Garcia spent the entire game trying to make the stupid kind of plays that Brett Favre used to be able to get away with doing. Problem was, instead of looking like Favre of eight or nine years ago, he looked more like...well...Favre did in Cincy...
