Let the countdown begin.
I was working from home today because the exhaust pipe broke apart from the catalytic converter as I drove home last night. So needless to say I dropped the car at the shop after securing that thing.
So while I was channel surfing when I took a lunch break/worked in front of the tv for a bit, I ran across the commercial for the season premiere. Sucks that I could the very end, as in the ABC logo, but I at least heard a baby cry, no clue what that was about since I missed the rest of the commercial, and I did catch the premier date.
Thursday, September 29 at 8/7c
In the season premiere episode, after learning that the man she has known as Michael Vaughn is under investigation and suspected of being a double agent, Sydney begins to question whether their business and personal relationship over the years had all been a lie. When she discovers that she's pregnant with Vaughn's baby, she becomes determined to uncover the truth about him. Meanwhile, because of Jack's past betrayal by Irina, he begins to worry that his daughter may suffer the same fate that he did.
This season, new agents will be introduced and a nefarious organization will come to light in Sydney's life as she fights to protect her unborn child -- all the while traveling incognito, outsmarting the bad guys and keeping the world safe.

heh I've been itching to start this thread for the last week or so.
I heard that this seasons schedule is going to be odd due to Garner being pregnant. The first half of the season might end in november, and the second half might start as late as march.

Yeah I heard something along the same lines. It'll be interesting and annoying.
I'm hoping though that we'll have back to back episodes, no skipped weeks or repeats during the 2 seperate halves though. Kind of like last season. That way it wont be as bad. They can run a chunk of reruns or something else in during the hiatus, but not before or after it.

Personally, I prefer the split season schedule. That's what Scifi does with their Friday night programming. They run half the season in the winter, and half in the summer.

Interesting, I didn't know that. It's interesting to learn of the ways other cable stations (as in the ones I don't get) handle their shows.

The nice thing about it, is you get 12 eps all together, twice a year, with a few months off inbetween. It's a good break. It would be nice if another station ran something for fall and spring. National networks are stupid because of the way they run their programming. No one wants to see reruns, so it makes sense to run half the season without a break at a time. The benefit to this is that it's possible to rerun the entire half season right after it's shown, so if people missed it the first time, it's there the second time. Sure, some nights have to be two-hour specials, but it's a good way to attract viewers to a show.

I thought they were bringing it back in january so they could go straight through without reruns like they did last season (and like 24 and Scrubs is doing).

This is ABC we're talking about. They couldn't figure out how to maximize profit off of Monday Night Football, so they are dropping it. Why would they stick with what works for Alias, a show they don't even respect?

ABC moved Monday Night Football to sunday so they could have a better game selection later in the season.
Anyhow, back to Alias
From tvguide.com
Sydney Bristow's team at APO will be getting bigger when Alias returns for its fifth season on Sept. 29 (the show's new time slot is Thursdays at 8 pm/ET). Producers are adding three new characters to the hit ABC spy series — and that's not counting star Jennifer Garner's soon-to-be-born child, who will also be written into the action. (Yes, Syd is pregnant with Vaughn's baby. That much is certain in the secret-filled, perpetually uncertain Alias world.) For starters, French actress Élodie Bouchez has been tapped to play a cohort from Vaughn's shady past, which had been just barely hinted at prior to last season's horrific car-crash finale. "She and Vaughn share a history," says executive producer Jeff Pinkner, "and in our season finale we started to tease the audience with what that history is and what secrets Vaughn has been keeping from Sydney. We knew there would be another player in that story, and [Bouchez] plays that role." Also coming on board is Balthazar Getty as Thomas Grace, an APO agent who is "a little rough around the edges," says his portrayer, and thus doesn't play well with others. "It's pretty cool how they introduce my character," hints Getty of his debut in the season's second episode. "I come in fighting." As does Rachel Nichols, whose butt-kicking agent, Rachel Gibson, will become APO's youngest rep. "She joins the team early in the season, but they don't actively set out to recruit her," says Pinkner, "and if I were to tell you much more, it would give away the fun of meeting her character." The exec will say, though, that introducing this newbie will "show how you [create] a superagent like Sydney Bristow. She doesn't have the skills Sydney has, but she will need to acquire them over the course of the season." Pinkner says the plan to spice up the cast with the aforementioned new arrivals developed "simultaneously" with Garner's announced pregnancy, and is not a calculated effort to cover for her understandably decreased on-screen fisticuffs. After all, Sydney still may find herself in a scrape or two. "We're not going to do anything that begs credibility anymore than we have in the past," he notes. "But if danger comes to her, she will absolutely fight it off." And there will be danger in great supply as the new season picks up immediately after the car crash. The question of Vaughn's true identity and what else he was going to tell Syd "will be answered in the first episode — or most of it will be," allows Pinkner. "The consequences reveal a new enemy who is far more pervasive and dangerous and mysterious than any we have fought before."

Vaughns dead.
No surprise there. If the woman I was dating broke up with me, then got married and got pregnant by another guy, I wouldn't want to work with her either.

heh don't forget, Vartan was a rebound relationship. I don't know many of those that work. Speaking from expereince of one that did not.
I finally saw this tonight, very good. I knew there was something hinky with that one dude.
I'll probably be hated for saying this, but I'm glad Vaughn's gone, never cared for him as a romantic interest for Syd.
I have more thougths in my journal, but I'm tired and will post here at a later time.

I'm hoping Affleck doesn't show up on Alias soon.

Reruns of this show are now on both TNT and KFSD(local station) here. I thought I heard something about F/X picking them up, too.
Avoiding all those channels won't be easy.

Speaking of reruns. I was just channel surfing and found it on Fox. Looks like early season 1 episode, don't remember the name. But the part I saw was when Vaughn walks up to forgot his name and he tells Vaughn that Devlin wants him off the Bristow case, he wants a more senior level agent on it.
I didn't even realize it was Alias when I stopped, all I saw was Vartan walk into a room wearing a suit. For all I knew it was a movie he was in.
Nice to see the show on other channels. course I have 1-3 on DVD.

When and where is Alias running in sindication? As for the first ep of season 5, if they can keep this momentum going, the show is back! I was not expecting Vaughn to die in the first ep of the season, but it was so well done. And this opens the door for Will to return. I said she belongs with Will, although for the first time in the series I could actually see her with Vaughn. I wish he would have survived, and had that he had to go rogue. That could have been interesting. But this works too. Syd belongs with Will.

It's 6 PM EST on TNT
ABC Family did marathons Alias back in the day. In fact, it was thanks to them showing reruns during season 1 that I got caught up to what I missed in no time at all. I'd watch new eps, then tune in on the weekend, or whenver they were showing it, and see the earlier episodes. It tooke me a few short weeks and I no longer felt lost. Tihs was with having scoured the web looking for transcripts and all. It's not the same unless you watch it, so much goes on.

Thoughts?
Personally, the whole "you killed my baby's father" thing has gotten old already. It just doesn't feel true to Sydney's character to be walking around saying that to everyone.
LOVED when Jack told her he's there for her and called her sweetheart though.
Who's the creepy dude in stasis and who stole him?
My mom think's Weiss is going to come back and propose to Syd. lol

I think this show has run out of steam. Two of its stars have left this season, their bringing in two new recruits, which they did last year with Nadia, but they completely dropped her. Everything that has happened so far this season has happened before, except for Sydney being pregnant. The whole "Sydney going after her kids fathers murderers" thing is going to get old really fast.

These first two eps already put most of last season to shame. The only think I'm worried about is the new characters being caricatures of Syd and Vaughn.

they will be, if the characters are popular, they will get their own show.
I realized what this season was really missing, Jennifer Garner running around in her underwear. Thats why I can't get into it.

So, the new guy is cool. Definately not Vaughn. The new girl is exactly what I was afraid of. She is a parody of Sydney. I hate recycling concepts like that.

I'm glad the new guy's not a clone of Vaughn. Loved when he told Marshall to buckle up then floored it. lol
I don't see the new girl as a parody of Sydney, if anything I see her as a niave Marshall. Remember, Marshall was like her when he first went out on missions.
Actually I found the twist with this black ops group interesting. Makes you wonder if Sloane would have done the same thing at SD-6 before the CIA took them down.
Remember, he'd know for months that Syd and Jack were double agents, yet he acted as if nothing was going on. Then the CIA was the one that took them all down and the SD-6 agents then were faced with the truth.
This time the guy (forgot his name) blew the place up right after finding out the new chick's strayed.

Sloane had another agenda, and having Jack and Syd played into it. Still, I don't know that he would have blown up a building of "innocent" people. Sloane was on a mission to make the world better. His means did not justify his ends, but he was willing to overlook that to solve the Rimbaldi puzzle. He trully believed his actions would lead to a better world. He was sick, but not cold hearted and evil. He was human.
This guy is something else. He's selfish. He's out there for something, but it has to do with power, not the betterment of mankind. To that end, anyone who knows anything must not be allowed to live. There is a very big difference here.
Sloane wished to share his vision with everyone who would listen. This new guy is something else entirely.
As for the new girl, she's Marshall and Syd rolled into one.

I couldn't help but think of how Mockingbird's first assignment in the shoes of a field agent, must have been like Syd's first mission.
It's cool to see her learn the ropes and be trained as a field agent. Has that I wonder if Sydney was like that when she started off.
It's a rented tux ok? I'm not going comando in another man's fatigues.
