We've done villains, but now it's time for the heroes to have their day. Who are the heroes that inspire you with their banter, their skill, or their dumb luck? List off your top ten and explain why!

Listed in random order:
David Dunn ( Unbreakable) - The reluctant hero has always been an intruiguing concept to me... and nobody was able to show that better than Bruce Willis' 'unbreakable' Dunn. Thrown into an impossible situation, Dunn has to confront who he is and what he's capable of in order to realize his destiny. Brilliant.
Indiana Jones ( Raiders of the Lost Ark, et al.) - When it comes to Harrison Ford heroes, even Han Solo and Jack Ryan have to take a backseat to Indiana Jones. Not only does he have that typical Ford brashness and heroism, but he also has a certain intelligence (beyong street smarts) that Solo just doesn't have.
John McClane ( Die Hard, et al.) - The ultimate action hero. Destruction and chaos just happen to arise whenever he comes around... and he always manages to come out on top. Whether he's battling Alan Rickman's Hans Gruber or Jeremy Irons' Simon Gruber, John McClane's wit and knack for walloping bad guys and creating unbridled chaos makes him one of the best.
Leonard Shelby ( Memento) - Drive. Passion. Motivation. It makes a hero and hero and a villain a villain. Leonard Shelby's singular passion, combined with his lack of memory (and Christopher Nolan's unique style of storytelling) make Shelby one of the most memorable heroes in cinema.
Korben Dallas ( The Fifth Element) - I guess no one does the hero bit better than Bruce Willis. A former commando-turned-New York-cabbie from the future tied up in a plot to stop the ultimate evil from corrupting and destroying the world... Dallas gets the job done.
Aragorn ( Lord of the Rings) - I love haunted heroes and Aragorn is certainly one of those. Seemingly doomed to repeat the mistakes of his forefather, Isolder's Heir seems reluctant to take up his rightful mantle as the king of Gondor... but when he finally accepts his destiny, he kicks more ass than just about anyone I've ever seen on screen.
Connor and Murphy McManus ( Boondock Saints) - Two more examples of passion and drive, the McManus brothers are so determined to clean up their neighborhood that they kill Italian gangsters, Russian gangsters, peep show visitors, and even take on their own father in a firefight. Can't get more determined than that...
Grammaton Cleric John Preston ( Equilibrium) - Dystopia is one of my favorite concepts... as is the whole 'man-against-the-world' angle. Equilibrium combines both beautifully in John Preston, the ass-kicking, driven, and poised killing machine played oh-so-aptly by Christian Bale.
Ash Williams ( Evil Dead, et al.) - Trilogies seem to breed good heroes, and the Evil Dead trilogy is no exception. The fast-talking, zombie-killing Ash keeps the hits coming, whether they be from his boom-stick, his chainsaw arm, or his big mouth... well, it's always entertaining, anyway.
Beatrix 'The Bride' Kiddo ( Kill Bill) - The butt-kickin'est girl ever to grace the silver screen, the Bride does her fair share of bad guy beating - killing five fellow assassins and taking down an entire gang of kung fu fighting gangsters - all in the name of revenge. And, while vengeance may not be an heroic concept, Beatrix Kiddo makes it look all too good.
Honorable mentions (in random order) include:
Butch Coolidge ( Pulp Fiction)
El Mariachi ( El Mariachi, et al.)
Batman ( Batman, et al.)
Tyler Durden ( Fight Club)
Ellen Ripley ( Alien, et al.)
Sarah Connor ( Terminator, et al.)
Connor MacLeod ( Highlander)
John Rambo ( First Blood)

You'd think a guy who goes to the ends of the Earth to differentiate tranny hentai from hermaphrodite hentai would be able to see the differences between this thread and that.

In some cases, but Chewy's two lists are completely different. And there is still differences in many other people's choices as well.

One asks for a list of characters from all media who you would choose for your own makeshift LOEG.
The other asks for a list of characters from the film media (only) who inspire you.

I'll also take this as an admission on your part that your hermaphrodite hentai is the exact same thing as tranny porn.

Samwise Gamgee - C'mon Mr. Frodo... I can't carry it for you... but I can carry you! C'mon!
The least corruptible character in the Lord of the Rings movies. He was able to release the ring without being tempted by its power. Plus, despite not being prepared for the journey into Hell on Middle-earth, he marches in and does his best to inspire his best friend to continue on the dangerous trek that they must finish.
R.J. MacReady - Trust is a tough thing to come by these days.
Stuck in Antarctica with an alien shapeshifter intend on taking over the world and a group of scientists and workmen who may or may not be said alien. MacReady does a damned good job of keeping his shit together in a situation that would cause anyone else to just fucking loose it. He knows its a matter of survival. Not just his, but that of everyone on the planet. As the last bit of shelter from the harsh cold of the South Pole burns away with the hope of rescue with it, Childs wonders if they'll survive. "Maybe we shouldn't."

Nada - I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubblegum.
Down on his luck, drifting from town to town looking for work, and trying to eek out a living in hard times, Nada is a man who gets tossed into the deep end of the pool, head first. By simply putting on a pair of sunglasses, he sees that his world is one big lie. He and the entire human race have been duped into being cattle for a conquering alien master. In a society that can't or even, in some cases, refuses to see, Nada does the only thing he knows how; he fights back, quick and hard even if it's just one at a time.
Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard - Don't ever argue with the big dog, because the big dog is always right.
Sam Gerard is a man with drive and passion. As Deputy Marshal he's got a job to do. A serious job. His duty is to make sure that the men and women who belong behind bars get and stay there. But he also has a resposibility to uphold justice. When fugitive Richard Kimble stops acting like a guilty man on the run, and his half baked aliby begins to gain credence, Gerard becomes a man with two goals: 1) Catch his fugitive. 2) Find out the truth behind the murder of Dr. Kimble's wife. And he doesn't stop until he achieves both.

Also major props to allan1 for keepin it real with Stanley from UHF, a true forgotten classic!

Well seeing as it was him that blew the buildings to shit, wanted to kill Marla & was willing to kill the Narrator too, I'd say he was pretty villainous!

Yeah. Norton's character was the hero (if that film can be said to have one at all). And yes, I know they were the same person, but for the majority of the film they're presented separately, and have separate goals, so for the purposes of discussions like this we have to think of them as two separate characters...
Thing is- I can’t spell or type. I spell so badly my spell check doesn’t even know what I was trying to spell. And I have five Eisners HAHAHAHHA!!

His actions practically screamed it, Charlie. And, yes, Norton was technically the psycho, but Pitt was his psychotic "other half"

There was nothing psychotic about him. Just because he was eccentric, that doesn't make him cognizantly impared.
