If Wolverine was able to get close enough to Jean to be able to snikt her right in the guts, he should have been able to just pop her with the cure that was apparently lying around everywhere.

thats a geek complaint!
i think it was just a cool "hey, they're like from the comics!" moment. they never intended on there being a sentinels storyline or actual creation.
The problem I have with it isnt a geek complaint, its the fact that should they do a sequel that involves the Sentinels, it will kinda be dumb that the X-Men created a danger room senario about them before they even existed! The fact that Bolivar Trask was in the movie would indicate that should their be any sequels, there is a strong chance of Sentinel activity rearing its head!
As for the point about Storm, her arrogance was made even worse the way she brushed off McCoy when he pointed out that not every mutant is as lucky as her! The comparison to handicapped people does not work! There is not one single handicapped affliction that is postive, where as mutant powers are both negative & positive! Its easy for a beautiful mutant who has control of her powers to be so judgmental isnt it! And you show me a handicapped person that would not accept a cure if it was offered to them!
Its a valid point, and one that I wish they hadn't so quickly dismissed. Rogue and Cyclops (to name but two) are essentially "freaks," they can never have any normal or comfortable life and they should have the choice to change.
That's the problem. They didn't really do any work to explore the point of view of people like Rogue and Beast. It was just a few quick scenes of "Hey remember her? She hates her powers!" and it moved on. There was no story in this movie. It was a collage of geek wank moments and high dollar special effects. The X-Men weren't characters. They were puppets awkwardly clodding along from one action scene to the next. Instead of making you empathize with the characters through their humanity, this creative team goes for soap opera sentimentality and nostalgia.
Every time you think this movie is going to turn into a real film with real consequence for the characters, it kicks you in the nuts and steals your lunch money as you writhe on the ground in pain. Holy shit! Xaiver's been controlling Jean's mind to turn her into the person he wants her to be. What the fuck?! He could possible be doing the same to Wolverine?! What kind of moral quandary are we in now? Apparently none since the movie seems to follow the notion that Charles was right in what he did as well as taking over a (I guess) comatose body even though he posed the question of the morality of that subject as well.
Oh, and Wolverine cried like a bitch.

I'm sticking with my B grade of it. Singer, I think, would have done a better job on this, given us a better story and actually treated it like a story rather than dropping in plot points and leaving them unexplored (Charles's control of Jean; Rogue's decision to take the Cure were the two big ones, to me).

It doesn't deserve that, in my honest opinion. Since it's a sequel that is piggybacking on the success of Singer's first two movies, I have to compare it to those two; and it just doesn't hold up. Three is in no way better than one for the simple fact that one was the experiment to see what could and could not pass on the big screen. With leasons learned they made two, which is a vastly superior movie. With a two movie foundation, three comes along and makes more mistakes than one did. Action and special effects alone don't make a good movie. Especially when its predecessors made sure to focus on story and characterization.

i am curious as to what someone thinks seeing this movie, and not the first two (or have comic book knowledge)
like... there's no explanation or supplemental story or anything. its as if this entire film could have been deleted scenes from xmen 2 - and many, rightfully so.

i don't think her arrogance is horrible, tho. sure, i agree with you and disagree with her point, but i think its a valid argument to have.
there are whole series on dicovery channel, where deaf parents debate whether or not to have operations for their deaf children (and other similar aspects). or how there's some people with the notion that being gay is a cureable illness. or the outrage caused by parents who have operations on their children with downsyndrome to make them look more "normal"
there were a lot of interesting angles they coulda played up here -- not the least of which was storm being upset that others deemed her ill. the problem i had, like doc and r3x pointed out, is that the movie never played into it. because the movie was made of garbage.

I saw this with a friend who hasn't seen the first two movies. I had to explain a lot of stuff right there, especially concerning Rogue: it's never explained what her powers are (she's just running around in the Danger Room scene) or what her relationship with Iceman is.

There's no fuckin' way that anyone could've followed this movie without having seen the first two.

Exactly. This was just a fanboy wankfest, pure and simple. For the most part, I agree with what NWM and doc have already stated - this movie consisted of a lot of cool looking scenes and sacrificed plot/characterization/answers to moral questions to do it.
Though, I will admit, I still enjoyed a few things - in addition to the fastball special; the "stars and garters;" and "I'm the Juggernaut, bitch!" comments, I also liked this exchange:
Pyro: Interesting helmet.
Juggernaut: It keeps my face pretty.
Usually the fangirl in me sees a good comic book flick more than once while its still in the theatre, but I'm not jonesing to see this one again. Sadly, it didn't begin to stand up to the first two flicks.

But once again this has nothing to do with the people themselves, this is about normal people debating what is good for their disabled offspring! The people debating this are not the afflicted people!
As for "gay" being a disease, thats not actually a physical affliction like disabilty or mutant powers, thats a mental disorder if you want to classify it as an affliction (which I personally do not before I incur the wrath of our homasexual posters). This is just bigotted people trying to rationalise something they cant possibly understand!
Yes, Warrens father comes up with "the cure" for the same reason, but he does actually have a valid point for those mutants who cannot control their powers, or are physically deformed, his cure is needed! One of the things that was badly handled in this movie was that the cure was voluntary, yet it was portrayed as something as bad as the mutant registration act from the comic books! Had they portrayed this cure as compulsary, it would have made a lot more sense!

I will say though that I didnt hate this film, I just found it very disapointing. I expected so much more than what I was given! I probably wouldnt have been so scathing if this had been the first film.

nah, the show is deaf parents with deaf kids - or a blind family or every one is a dwarf or whatever. the point of the show is that it is people afflicted with whatever debating about other people with the same affliction.
in the show, pros and cons are brought up about recent medical advances. sometimes the family is for various operations, sometimes against, sometimes there's a huge debate within the family.

i didn't mean it as exact comparison, animalman. i just meant that there are similar pro-vs-con arguments out there, like those on the discovery show, whose aspects the movie could have played up on.
and, again, i don't agree with storm's view. however, i'm certain there would be mutants that would, were it an actual scenario, particularly in a world where regular people are terrified of mutants, and ship their own children away, were they to show a mutant ability (good or bad)
the argument, storm's side versus rogue's side, would make an interesting dynamic and in turn, an interesting movie.
clearly, that did not happen.

And thats why her comments annoyed me so much! The only voice raised against Storms opinion was McCoys, but there was no answer! Storm didnt apologise for being overly opinionated or defend her stance! She made a statement, was called on it, the walked off! No more was said!
Just like when Charlie berated Logan & Logan didnt even argue back!
It was almost like the film makers had a point to make, but had no idea how to deliver it!
