No one at all is talking about this movie? I just got back from it. Hands down this is the best movie I've seen this year.

Geehovitz was alright, but don't get carried away, now. There have been better movies this year.

Understandable, if you had your back to it the first time.

I had no idea Geehovitz was getting this kind of fan response.

Christopher Priest didn't write The Prestige. Christopher Priest did.

This movie is fucking awesome. Why couldn't this Nolan make The Bat-Man?

BB doesn't suck, but it's also nothing special. I expected something original from Nolan. Unlike Memento or The Prestige, the movie doesn't challenge you in any way.

Gotcha.

I was never a big fan of Memento, really. I mean, yeah...backwards. Cool. I get it. But, I've heard nothing but excellent reviews on The Prestige.

BTW, totally different subject and guy (Aranofsky), but, did you ever see the movie Pi, Mxy?

Memento wasn't really backwards, though. It was just non-linear. Irreversible, Pinter's Betrayal, that episode of Seinfeld...those are backwards.

Memento was actually more critically well-received than the Prestige has been, so, while the films have differences, you may not enjoy it if you didn't care for Memento.

Maybe I'm missing something...but how wasn't Memento backwards? Each scene takes place before its previous scene, much like "that episode of Seinfeld". That's backwards in my book.

"No pick! There was no pick!"

Really, though, I wasn't trying to nitpick. I pointed that out because I've heard that often. It's an important thing to note, I feel, as I've interacted with a lot of people that dismis it on the basis of its chronology. "Backwards? That's so pretentious and cliche." It's an unfortunate misconception.

I understand. I really don't think it's either pretentious, or, cliche. I enjoyed Memento thoroughly. However, past the great performances, and unique storytelling technique, it's never stood as one of my favorite films. That's all...

No, it doesn't. It has some scenes like that, but that's not how the whole movie is structured. It jumps around.

You said you weren't a big fan, so I took that as indicating that you either didn't like it or just didn't like it much. Oh well.

It's one of my favorite films, but I suppose part of my enjoyment came from the fact that I saw it "blind". I hadn't heard anything about it, I wasn't familiar with Nolan or Pearce yet, and I picked it because the movie I came there to see was sold out and it was a long drive back from the indy theatre. Similar circumstances surrounded my seeing Pi, another favorite of mine.

I'm with you on Pi. Fucking great movie! And, I did see Memento "blind". I was already familiar with Pearce from L.A. Confidential, and love Joe Pantoliano in everything he's been in. Still, it just didn't do anything spectacular for me...

Yep, and Aronofsky's crazy fucked up version of Year One was the one I wanted to see. I'm looking forward to The Fountain, also starring Wolverine.

Is there an Aronofsky script of YEAR ONE online anywhere? I'd be interested in seeing what he would have done...

If only there was some sort of webpage where I could search the internet for the content I wanted to see.

I should invent it.

Maybe I'll call it something like "Google" or "Yahoo".

If anybody want in on this send me money.

Yeah, it's around somewhere. I haven't read it, but I read a pretty detailed synopsis and review at AICN.

Be advised, though... it makes All Star Bats look respectful by comparison.

It sounded pretty bad to me...probably because Miller co-wrote it, and it has become painfully obvious to me in recent years that his work does not translate well directly to film. Also, it seemed to have departed so drastically from the Batman mythos that it was barely a Batman movie at all.

I thought Nolan's version had some weaknesses, but it was with a few bits of trite dialogue(the Goyer touch!) and poor acting performances from certain ex-Dawson's Creek stars. It's possible to make a truly interesting, unique film and still retain the core of the character. As much as I like Aronofsky, he didn't seem too interested in trying that out.

Why couldn't it be an interesting movie by completely disregarding everything we know about the character? I think the core concept is wide enough to survive that.

I read recently that Goyer plotted Dark Knight with Nolan, but he's not writing it (Nolan and his brother are, like in The Prestige). That sounds like a good indication that maybe the second film will be more "Nolanesque".

I'm not sure I'm getting you. I think it could be an interesting movie on its own, but the synopsis and review seemed to indicate that the movie Aronofsky wanted to do had more in common with some 70's revenge flick like Deathwish than it did Batman.

The less Goyer involvement the better, in my opinion.

Because, as I said, the core concept is simple enough to survive that. It's a guy whose parents got killed who dresses up like a bat. All the rest is bullshit. It might not be the The Bat-Man we know, but it would still be The Bat-Man.

Yes, it would still be The Bat-Man. The Just Imagine Stan Lee Creating the DC Universe Bat-Man.

I always thought the Saint would have been a better sequel to Kilmers batman flick that clooney made because kilmer was filming the saint.
