When it comes right down to it, I agree with the article in as much that The Authority is as historically relevant to the comics industry as the birth of the Silver Age, or Watchmen itself. It presented an entirely new way of looking at the spandex universes eternal struggles of good and bad, and painted the reality of gray between it all. And, no matter how much guys like Geoff Johns, Jeph Loeb, and Mark Waid wish they could ignore it, and retroactively revert comics to something akin to their childhood memories, The Authority's influence completely altered the face of the superhero landscape as we know it.
I, for one, am thankful for the breath of fresh air left behind, and sincerely hope that the medium will allow the evolution of its heroes to embrace the humane struggles and realistic morality The Authority gave us...
