EDWARD NORTON TO STAR IN "THE INCREDIBLE HULK"Variety is reporting that Marvel Studios has announced Edward Norton will take on the role of Bruce Banner in "The Incredible Hulk," which is currently set for theatrical release on July 13, 2008.
Norton takes over the role from Eric Bana who starred as the man you don't want to make angry in "Hulk," the 2003 film directed by Ang Lee.
"The Incredible Hulk" seeks to relaunch the character as a possible franchise by taking the character in a different direction from Lee's dark, angst-ridden version and keeping closer to the characters comic book and television roots in action and adventure.
Written by Zak ("Elektra," "X2," "X-Men: The Last Stand") Penn, the new film finds Banner on the run as he seeks to cure himself of the condition that causes him to turn into a gigantic green monster.
Norton has most recently appeared in the period pieces "The Illusionist" and "The Painted Veil" and recently announced that he'll write, direct and star in the film version of Jonathan ("Omega The Unknown") Lethem's book "Motherless Brooklyn."
Louis Leterrier of "The Transporter" films will direct. Sweet. First Downey for Tony Stark, and now this. It looks like someone at Marvel films is finally starting to figure out how to cast these films. I couldn't stand the first Hulk film. Hopefully, this one will be done right

I thought the first Hulk film was ok, but could've been so much better had they dropped the comic panel visuals and the whole story about his dad, or scaled the dad story back so that Bruce was Bruce Banner and he worked on the Gamma Bomb.
Ironically that same year I saw Joe Quesada talking about how Spider-man was such a big hit because they stuck with the comics.
Bow ties are coool.

The twenty minute sequence of the Hulk running around the desert and tossing tanks was good, but the rest of the movie put me to sleep.
I realize that the abusive dad was a subplot of the comics since at least Peter David's run, but it was always that: a subplot, not the main point of the whole story.

All they really need to do is something not unlike the intro to the TV show during the opening credits, setting forth how Dr. Banner was trying to tap into hidden human strength, received an accidental overdose of gamma radiation and is now a fugitive/monster.

I think they need Rick Jones. I mean, how can you do a Hulk movie without that lovable hippy?

Personally, I'd rather see Jack McGee, intrepid member of the liberal media, in the film.

Fucking sweet! If this is true, then Marvel is really stepping up in the theater again. As said, Downey as Iron Man, and Norton as Banner? Can't get much better than that. I have to wonder, though, how they talked Ed Norton into doing a comic book movie. It seems very unlike him...

I'm guessing a big paycheck will have a lot to do with it.
Also, between Depp doing the "Pirates" movies, Downey doing "Iron Man" and even going back to Brando and Hackman doing the first "Superman, the stigma of doing these sorts of movies seems to have all but vanished.

I think the fact that some big names (some Oscar winners) have featured in recent super hero movies, is reason enough that Norton would accept!
I mean, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Eric Bana, Sir Ian McKellan, Christian Bale and Kevin Spacey all spring to mind!

i didn't hate the first hulk movie -- its one of the few comic book movies that i can watch repeatedly, any time its on hbo or whatever. though, i think a "hulk smash" 90 minute flick would be pretty damn fun.
g-man, did you make that frontpage image? its actually pretty good!

no, I didn't see it and probably won't, but I was thinking back to the first Hulk movie which had a good cast, but sucked ass.

I thought the movie was okay. I actually liked it more than a lot of superhero movies people love.
And, though, I did like Bana in the role, Norton is absolutely perfect. Too bad the writer and director suck ass.

I think that's the key here. Bana is a good actor, but being a good actor wasn't enough to keep me from taking a nap during the film. Norton is an excellent actor, but if the script/directing suck, his talent won't be enough to make it a good movie. I'm not familiar with the writer and is Lee directing the 2nd Hulk? If not, who is?

Sweet. First Downey for Tony Stark, and now this. It looks like someone at Marvel films is finally starting to figure out how to cast these films.
I couldn't stand the first Hulk film. Hopefully, this one will be done right
No disrespect to Edward Norton, but I can't even picture him playing Bruce Banner, let alone the Hulk. I don't think this concept's going to fly at the box office.

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/news/comments/?entryid=418286The Hulk Has a New Girllllfriend!! Posted by Scott Weinberg on Friday, May. 04, 2007, 01:09 AM Scott Weinberg writes: "As much as I love Jennifer Connelly (and boy do I), it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that she wouldn't be returning to play Betty Ross in "The Incredible Hulk." But at least the producers made a really good choice for the sequel... Fanboy-friendly Liv Tyler has been signed to play opposite Edward Norton (and a whole lot of CGI) in Louis Leterrier's "The Incredible Hulk," which promises a lot more action than the previous entry -- and a lot less poodles. Souces indicate that Bruce Banner and Betty Ross will be sort of estranged at the beginning of the movie, but get back together when all the chases and explosions and giant green transformations become a factor. You'll no doubt remember Liv Tyler from her lovely presence in the "Lord of the Rings" movies. (She was the hot elf. Not the blonde one.) Ms. Tyler is also well-known for her work in "Jersey Girl," "Empire Records," and "Armageddon," in which she co-starred alongside several animal crackers and her own bellybutton.

Bruce (Edward Norton), Betty (Liv Tyler) and now, Emil Blonsky have been cast in the upcoming Hulk movie, with Tim Roth stepping into the Abomination’s (or at least Emil Blonsky's) big shoes, this according to Variety.
From the trade’s description of the character:
Blonsky is a KGB agent who deliberately exposes himself to the gamma rays that caused Bruce Banner to morph into the Hulk. Blonsky has upped the dosage, making him larger and stronger than the Hulk, but unable to change back to human form. He blames Banner for his problem, and makes his best efforts to destroy the Hulk.
The film will be directed by Louis Leterrier, distributed by Universal, and is slated to open on June 13th, 2008.
great casting so far. but as I said earlier, the first film had a good cast and still sucked. keep your fingers crossed.

This reminds me of an episode of the old Hulk tv show called "The Other Hulk."
It sounds like it could be good!

But I do loves me some Tim Roth. Excellent actor. He always plays such bastards, though... lol

Cool. It was one of my faves in that series.
Another fave was when the Hulk was captured, analyzed and proven to be gamma irradiated - and exposed to more gamma radiation, which made him unable to change completely back to David Banner.
" Something's wrong ... It's different this time. "
Another fave :
David meets the telepathic girl. He was gonna off himself in that one.. I believe the note read, " Past hope, past help, beyond cure. "
The girl gave him enough hope to get by in that excellently written episode.
And : He had to land a jet plane. His former co- star from " Eddie's Father" was in that episode.
