Well, I'll take back the "evil" part 'cause I'm not religious and it doesn't mean the same to me. But as a person with mental illness that takes care of it, raised by people with mental illness that did NOT take care of it, I don't have a lot of sympathy. If he thought he was doing the right thing, chances are he was some kind of schizophrenic and the people around him would have noticed.
I'm not trying to detract from the tragedy, but I don't think excuses ought to be made.
Not all mental conditions are as cut and dried as that. The fact is, some mental conditions mean you do not actually realise you have a mental condition, so why would you seek help?
Benoit was a 40 year old man and showed no signs up to this point, and if he did, why did those closest to him not see it or help him?
The only way this would truly be evil is if he didnt have a mental condition and just did this for whatever reason he came up with!
Said better than I said it....I also am not excusing the horrific act..i just can't see him knowingly doing it..the wife part maybe in a "roid rage" or something but not then premeditatedly killing his son a half day to day later--it doesn't make any sense, especially a bad or evil person. I think he was mentally damaged somehow at the time.
