huh. i was actually suprised that i didn't like that. loved the movie. loved the theme. but the two really don't mix for me. the danny elfman score just seemed over-theatrical and out-of-place when laced over the more realisticly-toned batman begins.

For the time period, it was a pretty awesome film. Like TMNT was. It followed the typical 80s-90s film plots and techniques, just like everything else. Even Hollywood cinema has developed a lot in the last 20 years.
What was sad was how the Batman films only went downhill from '89. '89 was a HUGE improvement from Adam West's SHIT, yes SHIT. It had the right tone, even though Batman blows guys up and Joker was more Jack in makeup than Joker (I have a theory that he's not really an actor, but a popular, non-violent psychopath).
Except the scene on the steps to City Hall, "Hello Benny, it's your Uncle Bingo. Time to pay the check!" -- that was SO Joker.

Yeah but you have to (I know it's easier said than done) separate movie from comics.
I think it's more enjoyable that way.
It really aggravates me that this new Bale Batman has shown no signs of any detective skills.
Which is also imperative to his character.

Well, I meant in the comics. I do keep all the media separate (cartoon, movie, comics, Elseworlds, fanfic, novels).
Indeed, detection is elemental. But it was his first meeting with Ras' and Scarecrow never really needs much detecting. Bats does lean pretty heavy on Lucias Fox... probably due to Lucius being played by Morgan Freeman. And the fact that he was getting so much development AS Batman/Bruce. There was only so much a fresh-faced audience can absorb in one film.
Hopefully there'll be more detection needed to hunt down the Joker.
