News sheets are probably 50% shit, so you have to say that things are not quiet as "well documented" as we think.
With biographies, we have a lot more information available to us about the old days.

granted, there is a lot of shit floating about (as there's always been), but it's also much easier to disseminate fact from fiction, and generally happens much faster.
biographies and dvds also have their own share of bullshit about the old days, as people have their own axes to grind, want to keep themselves portrayed in a certain way, or just want certain things forgotten. this is especially rampant with the E controlling much of the information that is coming out. after all, you never see any mention of anything good coming from any other promotion (except the real ECW) but the E. well, gee, if no one else ever did anything good, why did you steal everyone's stars and rename them? why did WCW do so well in the late nineties? there's plenty of bullshit out there about the old days and the present day, but all it takes is a little time and effort to sift through most of it. but people are generally too lazy to do that.
