The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy states that on a full lungfull of air one can survive in the vacume of space for about thirty seconds.
Which is plenty of time for his dead pheonix powered girlfriend to ressurect herself and save his ass.
That or anybody out there driving throught that starsystem sporting an infinite probability drive could pick him up if he could calculate the probability of such a thing occuring.

It's actually about 10 seconds & even less with a lung full of air if I remember correctly. A mutant might last longer & Cyclops does have his dead girlfriend that is due for another resurrection.
