Given the extremly low ratings for "Air America" I'm guessing a lot of people can say the exact same thing.

So ratings justify beatings? Way to be "fair and balanced", G. Way to be...

Considering a most ardent conservative like myself hasn't heard of her, it's reasonable to assume that most other conservatives haven't either. i.e. That means less chance of their 'conservative attacker' theory being correct.

New York Daily News:

• Air America radio host Randi Rhodes is temporarily off the air, but claims she was brutally attacked near her Manhattan apartment are bogus, her lawyer and a police source said today.
  
  Fellow host Jon Elliott claimed on the liberal radio network that Rhodes had been mugged while walking her dog, Simon, on Sunday night. Elliot, who said Rhodes lost several teeth in the attack, waxed about a possible conspiracy.
  
  "Is this an attempt by the right-wing, hate machine to silence one of our own?" he asked on the air, according to Talking Radio, a blog. "Are we threatening them? Are they afraid that we’re winning? Are they trying to silence intimidate us?"
  
  A police source said Rhodes never filed a report and never claimed to be the victim of a mugging. Cops from Manhattan's 17th Precinct called her attorney, who told them Rhodes was not a victim of a crime, the source said.
  
  Rhodes' lawyer told the Daily News she was injured in a fall while walking her dog. He said she's not sure what happened, and only knows that she fell down and is in a lot of pain. The lawyer said Rhodes expects to be back on the air Thursday. He stressed there is no indication she was targeted or that she was the victim of a "hate crime."
  
  "The reports of a presumed hate crime are unfounded," the statement read by a receptionist at the network's New York offices said. "Ms. Rhodes is looking forward to being back on the air on Thursday."

Real nice....some asshole at her own network spread this false rumor in the first place ....

I would, of course, like to know where Whomod pulled his original 'article'. Or should I say which blog? It's clear that it wasn't done by any real journalist.

Interestingly enough, that site also links to the Democratic Underground message board which is just chock full of interesting comments, many of which are of the "I bet the evil Bush administration did this and made it look like a mugging" variety.

I should note that I saw the headline that she wasn't mugged at RAW first.

Strange. I would have assumed it was up at Media Matters first.

Oh, that's right. They only write pieces attacking CONSERVATIVE radio hosts.

To see how Media Matters "attacks" conservatives I recommend checking out their websight. Attacks seem to consist of providing full quotes & links to the source material. A good example is the current story where Rush is "attacked" because Media Matters repeats his tale of threatening a journalist that he would find out where his kids go to school.

Well, it's certainly good to know that she is all right and apparently WASN'T attacked. The report of an attack seems to have stemmed from this Jon Eliott guy.

Still, the story is inconclusive as it says Randi isn't sure what happened to cause her fall. "She was floored by someone, or something", doesn't really say what exactly happened, one way or another.

Still, It's good to know she's doing OK.

According to the article I posted from the NY Daily News (see above), both the police and her own attorney are saying she wasn't attacked. She fell down:

Real nice. That's patently disgusting. Especially considering the entire point I posted it was on account of the fact that I like Randi. A lot. It was GOOD to hear that she was OK and that it was just some guy on air overreacting.

You know, the irony here is that I was actually going to defend whomod to some extent, pointing out that it wasn't really his fault that Air America and that blog ran a fabricated story.

However, given his apparent willingness to continue to believe that the attack may have occurred in the face of evidence to the contrary, coupled with the gratuitous slam on me directly above, I think I'll refrain from doing so.

G-Man. It didn't happen. It was a mistake on the part of the air America DJ. A mistake that was repeated by a few blogs who believe their source, and by myself as well. I was wrong. That Eliott guy was wrong. The blog was wrong.

Is that clear enough for you?

It's actually no problem to admit this because contrary to what some here believe, it's a PLEASURE to hear that this is actually not so bad.

Any half-assed decent reporter and his/her editor would know that you end questions with a question mark.

The main purpose of that blog entry was to spread the rumor that the 'attack' was due to right wing zealots trying to silence her. Why else post the whole thing and not just the part about her being mugged? No, this whole thing concentrated more on the 'fact' that it was the far right attacking those who express a liberal opinion. The icing on the cake here is that you and Ray both fell for it hook, line, and sinker. I mean, after all, why wouldn't the right be assaulting the liberals? It's just the kind of evil, vile, despicable thing that a conservative-hate mongering-right wing-conservative-baby eating-conservative would conservatively do

It just seems to me pretty petty on your part to, after everyone including Rhodes herself debunked that whole line of thought and paranoia, that you come along and make a post that essentially still holds on to the concept that the conspiracy bullshit could still be true. I did not say that you want a lefty radio personality to be attacked by conservatives to make the right look bad. I merely pointed out the fact that you'd rather hold onto the illusion that she was attacked by a far right winger rather than it being just some other horrible accident that wasn't motivated by her career or political stance.

In other words, despite the fact that this wild speculation has been thoroughly disproven, by Randi Rhodes herself, no less, you and other liberals will keep the myth that this was a conservative hit on Randi Rhodes alive forever.

I've already given multiple examples of liberal attacks on conservatives, and many other attempts of liberals, using the most spiteful of methods, to supress free speech of anyone that opposes their views.

Whomod was just pointing out that it was still open as to what happened WB. Since I believe I was the first one to point out that she wasn't apparently mugged on this thread & Rhodes herself isn't using what happened to attack conservatives I don't think your generalization about liberals is on very solid ground.

My comments weren't directed at you, they were directed at Whomod, keeping alive the conspiracy, despite Rhodes and Elliot fully retracting it.

I've given several examples to show these kind of false allegations are a consistent liberal political tactic.

I notice Whomod's comment was from the day before the article you've posted. Could it have been a case that Whomod was responding to the info he knew at the time? Maybe he'll jump in & clarify?

Well, as you say, Whomod can clarify himself.

But Whomod's response was to G-man posting an article that had the same information, that Rhodes and Elliot had both retracted that it was even a mugging. That it was clearly not a mugging, or some right-wing assault made to look like a mugging.

So after I already said it was a mistake and I was wrong, you still can't resist getting your daily quota of "evil liberal" plot conspiracies in, can ya?
