I'm keeping my hopes up that The Dark Knight will be at least as good - if not better - than Begins, which was an awesome movie.
I'll not make any judgements based on publicity photos or whatever else until I have seen the entire movie.

Personally, I'd prefer to not know the Joker's origins. I dunno, I'm kinda with G-Man on this - it looks too "circus clown" and not "homicidalmaniacfacefuckedupbyacid clown". i dunno, lady. this: is creepy as all fuck. disturbing, spooky... and creepy. Meh, I don't agree, but as I said - if Heath turns in a good performance - and he's a good actor, so I'm sure he will - and its a good story like BB was, I won't care about the clown make-up. i really love the hannibal lector portrayal of the joker. the cool, collected, creepily calm, mastermind. clearly insane, but clearly a genius. he can get loud and zany when he needs or wants to be, but he's always in control. thats when mark hammill throws in that glutteral chuckle of his, which i've always found more powerful than the traditional bellow of "HA"s. On this I totally agree. whether the joker's visage is caused from makeup, a dead person's severed face, or some magical acid that doesn't burn or kill but just turns things white... it really doesn't matter to me. if the guy is funny, disturbing, evil and creepy, i'm sold. That's what I was meant above by the "trumps" comment...

That said, if they go with a new origin, that's cool - I may not be in love with this particular look for the Joker, but a good story (new origin or no) trumps everything else... If I have to deal with natural web shooters, you can deal with a little makeup. What's there to "deal" with? I don't get how saying I didn't like this particular look is equated with something so big that it has to be "dealt" with. I don't love this look, true, but so what? My point was that it won't matter if they give us a good story - hopefully one that is on par with the level of Batman goodness we got in BB. Besides, does it really matter? Yeah, we can deconstruct the pic this way and that all day long, but the whole dipped in acid thing isn't really a big part of the Joker character anyway. If they changed the fact that Superman's planet exploded or that Batman's parents were shot and killed in front of him, that might be a cause for alarm (notice the use of the word "might") but I just don't see the whole acid thing as mattering two bits. As I said before, I don't care if they change his origin or not - or, as doc mentioned, even if there is no origin tale given at all. I didn't say that the origin mattered - or even that the Joker's look was really significant in the end, because regardless of whether I'm keen on it or not, his look isn't that big a deal. Just give me a good story with acting to match.

Personally, I'd prefer to not know the Joker's origins. i agree -- i actually never liked that whole aspect of "the killing joke." i much prefer the spin paul dini and bruce timm applied in "mad love", where the killing joke story, or the abusive father story, are two possible truths in the joker's warped and manipulative mind. he'll spin them out as he sees fit, but no one ever knows what really happened. I've seen shitloads of better Jokers at Con. Yep. In fact, if I can, I'll dig up a pic of my law school roommate at Halloween and post it. It looks like the same makeup job, which is to say: the 'slapped together after a six pack of Budweiser' look. they should go the Conrad Veidt route. Indubitably. Batman Movie Scene in Hong Kong Harbor Scratched Due to Pollution- The latest installment of the Batman series will start filming in [Hong Kong] this month, but already the movie has hit several snags.
A scene in which Batman was to drop from a plane into the harbor has been axed after the movie's producers found the water quality could pose a potential health risk, the South China Morning post reported in its Sunday edition.
"The plan was for Batman to be seen jumping into the water and then climbing up some bamboo, or something similar," the Post quoted an unnamed production official as saying.
"But when they checked a water sample, they found all sorts of things; salmonella and tuberculosis, so it was canceled. Now the action will cut to inside a building," the official said.
Hong Kong's harbor has long been polluted by industrial and residential sewage, and swimming is not recommended

i think a "too real", "too fantastic" and "well balanced" batman story can be an awesome batman story if its well made.
begins was much aweshome. i have high hopes for dark knight.
i'm open to the joker's portrayal being the scary makeup route and/or the dipped in acid route and/or the never explained route. i've never been fanboy-enough to worry about these prometheus-like details. i just likes movies. That's as close as I'll ever get to The Blog...

Tim said [the Joker] should have a humorous dark side to him. [Burton is] one of the great moviemakers. I think the world of him. He's the most unassuming man. And he doesn't feel pressure. That's what I love about him. Once he's in there, he's smiling making the movie. That's it!

Yeah...It's not like Jack owns the rights to play the Joker for life. No, but it's my understanding, both from this interview and the ones he gave around the time of the original movie, that the Joker really IS his favorite character and that he was a comic book fan growing up. So, Jack, like any other fanboy (look in the mirror guys) is just expressing the way most of us would probably feel in his situation.
