just because Nicholson was a fan and played the role in one movie 18 years ago hardly gives him any right to story input on an unrelated film series. I agree. Since the movie franchise has been rebooted in 2005 with " Batman Beguns ", it ought to be a clean slate. I suppose when they cast a new Riddler and Penguin, Carrey and DeVito will start bitching that they were not asked to reprise their old roles...

Don't forget Burgess Meredith, who played the Penguin in the old Batman show from 1966.
He, too, like Gorshin is dead. I liked them both as actors, and, from what I heard, they were both good people, too.

Gorshin was great, especially in the early episodes. If anything, his performance was closer to what the Joker should have been.

In fact, Gorshin is what made the Riddler a top tier Bat-villain. Prior to the TV series, the character had only appeared about three times in approximately twenty years. After the series premiered, however, the Riddler blew past everyone but Joker, Catwoman and Penguin in terms of villain popularity.

and he would have been invincible too, if he just stopped leaving clues everywhere.
riddler's best portrayal was in BTAS, as with many, many other things. the stylish hat and cane and arrogant persona... good stuff.
surprisingly enough, the best real-world (acting) riddler persona was not the riddler. ...though it was gorshin. he had a very cryptic and chilling guest appearance on CSI, just before his death, where his character was like a riddler-like mastermind. very noice.

I seem to recall reading in an old Batman comic that Riddler wanted to get caught, which is why he leaves clues for Batman, whom Riddler knows to be a fantastic detective who always catches him. I guess Riddler must like those prison showers!

you realize that those things came from Gorshin, right? they were directly inspired by him.

you realize that those things came from Gorshin, right? they were directly inspired by him. i know there was an element of suave to gorshin's riddler at times, but... the majority was more so jokerish. all jumpy and giggly. the one-piece unitard didn't help much, either. to me, the btas version came off as significantly calmer, more intellectual, more in control (not unlike the better persona of lex luthor, also from the timm/dini team)

but the unitard wasn't Gorshin. Gorshin hated it, and pushed for the suit, including hat and cane, which was his idea. this is why he was replaced by John Astin for a time.
the Dini/Timm was too calm and too similar to other criminals, notably their Clock King version and could've done with a touch of Gorshin's giggly and jumpy to stand out more.

I hated the eps where they'd have John Astin as Riddler. As did everyone I know. The ironic thing about Astin's performance as the Riddler is that, if you've seen him in nearly anything else, he's a guy that SHOULD have been able to play the Riddler really well. Of course, the fact that Gorshin so perfectly owned the role made it a tough act for anyone to follow.

Eartha Kitt was weird looking. Newmar was the hottness personified, and was still hot well into her 50s.

Funny thing is both Newmar and Lee Merriweather give Eartha props for the role.
But gotta say I'd fuck either of them before I got close to Ms Kitt's puddy....

Dear, sweet Harley Kwink...I'm madly in love with you. Marry me! We can go to Canadia. Or Boston or something. It'll be grand...You know the cookies are a given. They are ALWAYS a given. You could dump me tomorrow and you'd still get the cookies. Boston..shit, wherever dyke weddings were legalized. And where better to rub their little piggie noses in how bad they suck than right on their doorstep? What are they gonna do? Be jealous of you? Stare furiously at your tah-tahs?
