The TARDIS interior is believed to be something near the size of a small solar system. Given the moment and all, it seems to me that he accidentally materialized the TARDIS around the ship itself. The Christmas episode "Voyage of the Damned" will be broadcast in the UK on (naturally) Christmas day. The new season probably doesn't start until around May or June of 2008.
