it's saving the file as a .gif, if you dont change the image mode to indexed color from rgb color it will do that...

I always saved at a fairly decent quality.
I do remember you saying though, that you only noticed the quality after you got a new monitor.
I was shitting myself when I bought my new PC that all my photoshops were gonna looked all Snarfed up!
