Dear, sweet Harley Kwink...I'm madly in love with you. Marry me! We can go to Canadia. Or Boston or something. It'll be grand...You know the cookies are a given. They are ALWAYS a given. You could dump me tomorrow and you'd still get the cookies. Boston..shit, wherever dyke weddings were legalized. And where better to rub their little piggie noses in how bad they suck than right on their doorstep? What are they gonna do? Be jealous of you? Stare furiously at your tah-tahs? Not willingly give you cookies, but instead begrudgingly give you their cookies? Woman, time to wake up to the powers you wield - Uschi

"I refuse to see Batman Begins because I'm 99.999% sure I'll hate. After reading the script, I already know for sure that Nolan and Goyer changed the origin and hurt the representation of the character. Nolan purposefully wanted him to develop as Bruce Wayne in a batsuit rather than Batman. Instead of developing his own morality, he had Bruce Wayne take various ones from others to define his character and round down Batman into a "symbol."

This movie's probably not gonna fix the errors of the first. And Joker's being presented in the same vein as well. More a symbol than a real personality--Presented more by his scars than his desire to laugh. There's no way I'm giving Nolan and Goyer's "realism" fest a reprieve."

I seriously don't get the people who bitch about these movies from reading the scripts or hearing about the plots. It's one thing to complain beforehand, but the movie is out and damn near every critic and hardcore Batman fan agreed that Batman Begins was the best live action adaptation of the character ever done.
Of course Batman is a symbol, that's why he wears the fucking costume with a symbol on the chest instead of running around as a ninja. The whole point in the first film is that a man can be corrupted or killed, but a symbol can't. The idea in the sequel is that Batman raised the stakes, and now normal criminals aren't enough and the costumed crazies are born. It's the classic argument about the cause and effect of superheroes and their villains. It treats the genre as an intellectual action film instead of just a CGI wankfest that most superhero films can be.

the part in quotes? ok, but you seemed to agree with it.
and don't tell uschi to leave you be. you're not fit to be left be by uschi. she is a leaver of be on a scale you can not ever hope to imagine. if she were to leave you be her be would leave you so be it would make your brain explode to just add up one tiny percent of the be that she has left you.

i never seen why the wankfest about keeping the origin/character exactly like the comic. if you want the comic buy the freaking comic, there is a reason why comics sell in the tens of thousands and movies are seen by millions, it's a different medium with a different audience, yes there is crossover but just like straight comic adaptations of movies suck, straight movie adaptations would suck as well....

I agree changes can, and should, be made when the material is outdated or doesn't work in the different medium.

At the same time, I want a certain fealty to the core of the character and what works.

The only thing that really bugs me about all the Batman movies, including Nolan's (but not enough to not enjoy the films), is that they over-armor Batman with bulky armored and/or plastic looking costumes. I'd rather once they use a suit that looks more traditional (sort of like what they designed for the "Dead End" fan film).

Batman isn't Iron Man.

Also, saying "if you want a comic, buy the freaking comic" is good advice...except when the movie or TV show hits big and DC decides to change the comic book to capitalize on the movie or TV show (case in point: Superman and Smallville) (though, after "Batman RIP", changing the comic books to be more like the movies might be a godsend).

Overall, however, I agree with BSAMS, et al. It's unrealistic to expect (at least in a live action film) a movie that is 100% like any comic book (or book, or any other source material).

'BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT' SELLS OUT ACROSS US
  • "Batman: The Dark Night" is reportedly selling out in theaters across the US two days before it even opens.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, movie ticket Web sites like MovieTickets.com are reporting 700 shows have already sold out.

That number tops advance tickets for other blockbusters. It's three-times as much as "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" sold, and twice as much as "Spider-Man 3" and "Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" sold.

That's just one of those things that would kind of stick out in a movie. For Superman, it's okay; but for Batman people might expect him to be more cautious when going up against guys with guns and acid.

James Bond, Indiana Jones, Rambo, John McClane and most other "action" movie heroes do that all the time without wearing bulky body armor. I don't believe audiences would less willing to accept it in a movie based on a comic book, given its one of the conventions of the character.

Also, even if you're going to have the character wear body armor, because it's a movie with sci-fi/fantasy elements there's no reason the character can't wear a suit that looks more like traditional costume and just call it "high tech" body armor. If audiences accept the Batmobile and all the other gadgets they would certainly accept a more lightweight costume design.

However, like I said, it doesn't bother me so much that it ruins my enjoyment of the films. I just wish they'd go another way with the costume design and stop rehashing a decision that was made twenty years ago to hide the fact that Michael Keaton was out of shape.
