so, with spoilers, do you think the joker would have reprised his role down the line had heath not been deadger?
...eh? eh?
and, to that point, do you think future batfilms will reference the joker, perhaps using superman returns-like brando effects? or a new actor? or just a brief mention from arkham?

Ledger was insanely good. But quite honestly there are some other pretty fucking good actors that when you throw some make up on them they will be able to at the very least mimic Heath's Joker. Ledger will always be known as the one that created that character though. But they may do another movie with another actor.

if it is a DKR they could get Nicholson to play him, if anything just to hear fanboys of the new movie wank and cry....

and, to that point, do you think future batfilms will reference the joker, perhaps using superman returns-like brando effects? or a new actor? or just a brief mention from arkham? PJ was right...they can get some other actor to reprise the role but, I don't think that they will. Since this is the last role before he died and since he's been universally applauded for his performance, I think that they'll let the role die with him. They may reference him or even show him as Rob suggests but I don' think you'll see the character as an integral part of the movie again. On a side note, I thought that there was a hint that Catwoman may be in the next one...when bruce is speaking to Lucious about the new batsuit and asks will it stop a dog. Lucious mentions that it will stop a cat...to me that seemed an odd line unless it was foreshadowing. Given this franchises penchant for realistic vilians, who do you guys see as the next foe? Riddler would be OK. I'd like tyo see Mr. Zzazs(sp). It would also be cool if Talia showed up to continue the Ra's Al Ghul storyline...maybe she could even be a Catwoman tyoe of character until they confront each other.

Mr.Zsasz was in Begins. He's a hired thug for the mob, briefly shown in a courtroom, but he is there.

Saw it again earlier with everyone that hadn't seen it. It's like Gob took everything cool about Batman and wrapped it up in a nice two and a half hour package. The very last line and end gave me more goosebumps than the first time.

finally saw it. just amazing. Joker was scary, really scary, because everything he did was possible. He was like an amped up Zodiac killer spreading terror with a few words. The different origins added to the creepiness by stripping away a solid normal past. Also the scars and make up were great, because it was all too possible. He turned citizens into killers through fear. Harvey Dent was very likable, he was honest and good, Gotham's hero. I liked the idea that Batman isn't supposed to be a hero, he's supposed to do his job even if he is despised. I liked the grief-inspired insanity, you can't totally call him a villain. Bale was great again. He really has the dichotomy of his character nailed. I loved the daft Bruce who ran the stop light and saved the lawyer act. I loved the way he has evolved as Batman using a crime lab and becoming a detective. The action was great, it felt real, you could feel the lack of cgi. The plot was clever, the crimes were clever, it fucking rocked on every level possible.
Bow ties are coool.

Mr.Zsasz was in Begins. He's a hired thug for the mob, briefly shown in a courtroom, but he is there. Yeah, I remember that. He was shown so briefly that you could bring him back easily. The only problem is he's basically unknown outside of the comic fandom. Does he drive the next movie the way the Joker did this one? Or was it the performance by Ledger and the viral campaign that really drove this movie?

Batman will get X amount of viewers anyways, if you make a good mivie that will drive the crowd. I think if Ledger had played any character and died he woulda had the same impact, Joker or not. Begins was a huge movie without a marquee villain.

But I gotta believe some folks went out of the curiousity factor and the fact that they know who the Joker is in relation to the Batman mythos. If Ledger had played the Cluemaster, let's say...would those casual folks have come out even if all other circumstances were the same?

the record for a weekend is spidey 3 with $151 mil. can batman hit $155?
the record for one day: spidey 3 with $59 million. imma say batman tops that with $64 million for today.
Damn. Gobbo was pretty close to on the nose: - "The Dark Knight" set a one-day box office record with $66.4 million on opening day, Warner Bros. head of distribution Dan Fellman said Saturday.
The movie's Friday haul surpassed the previous record of $59.8 million set last year by "Spider-Man 3." "The Dark Knight" might break the opening-weekend record of $151.1 million, also held by "Spider-Man 3."
according to box office mojo, "the dark knight" has also just set the all-time opening weekend record with an estimated $155+ million batman is now the new premier champ. next up: titanic!

I gotta believe as characters Batman is the main draw, I mean if you are a Batman fan, you are a Joker fan mostly. If Ledger had played the Cluemaster, and it was written as well and he performed it as well and this was all buzzed post mortem then yes I think it would. The comic crowd is a small fraction of the movie going public, the buzz was for Ledger being dead and giving a great performance, not that the fact he was playing the Joker.

A friend of mine was upset at the idea that Batman Begins scrapped what was done before and started fresh. She said nothing can beat the first one with Keaton. This should have changed her mind.

Dear, sweet Harley Kwink...I'm madly in love with you. Marry me! We can go to Canadia. Or Boston or something. It'll be grand...You know the cookies are a given. They are ALWAYS a given. You could dump me tomorrow and you'd still get the cookies. Boston..shit, wherever dyke weddings were legalized. And where better to rub their little piggie noses in how bad they suck than right on their doorstep? What are they gonna do? Be jealous of you? Stare furiously at your tah-tahs? Not willingly give you cookies, but instead begrudgingly give you their cookies? Woman, time to wake up to the powers you wield - Uschi

I enjoyed the movie.
My only complaint is that it was vastly different from the comic book. So I look at it as a sort of "Elseworlds" Batman story, where it was very well done, but not the characters I recognize.
To me it was more like an episode of Law and Order than a typical Batman movie. Focused on crime, politics, and fielding the media, while trying to capture and hold the criminals, rather than fanciful superhero costumes and gadgets. Most of Batman's gadgets were like military hardware, for fighting a one-man war. Extremely violent, for a Batman movie. And in some ways reminded me of the movie Collateral (with Tom Cruise as a philosphical hit-man), with its exploration of good and evil, and human nature and motivation.
The Joker was misanthropic, out to prove that people could be driven to any evil, particularly murdering each other, to save themselves. He tells the city in a broadcast that if they kill one man, he won't bomb the entire city. He tells people on two ferry boats that if one blows up the other, that they will be spared. It was very timely in that the Joker is reinvented as a bomber-terrorist. And beyond psychological warfare, bombing people is his only power.
I'd love to have Usama Bin Ladin watch this movie, and after wonder if he, too, Joker-like, is the embodiment of senseless evil.
I still question the choice of Christian Bale as Batman, which I consider a weak link in the movie, especially his Clint-Eastwood-like whispered lines as Batman, presumably to disguise his voice, which just sounded silly to me. But I still love Bale's performance in two earlier roles, Spielberg's 1988 movie Empire of the Sun(as a W W II prisoner of the Japanese in Hong Kong, where Bale wasn't even in puberty yet, and thus unrecognizable to how he looks now) and his role in the 1993 movie Swing Kids. Michael Caine as Alfred is one of my favorite touches.
The others I thought all gave good performances. It was about as realistic as you could make a Batman movie.

In other Dark Knight business, I just got back from Six Flags where there is a new indoor DK coaster. The setup before the ride was cool, but the ride itself was too much like a roller coaster you'd see at a town festival. It sucked. Yeah.
