Yes. Yes. Yes. That was the exact moment of the movie where I knew he had it. This was THE Joker.

So, I finally saw the film today. It was not only the very best comic book movie I have ever seen, it was one of the best movies of all time. Flawless. One-hundred-percent flawless, in my opinion. It couldn't have been any better.

just amazing. Joker was scary, really scary, because everything he did was possible. He was like an amped up Zodiac killer spreading terror with a few words. The different origins added to the creepiness by stripping away a solid normal past. Also the scars and make up were great, because it was all too possible. He turned citizens into killers through fear.
Harvey Dent was very likable, he was honest and good, Gotham's hero. I liked the idea that Batman isn't supposed to be a hero, he's supposed to do his job even if he is despised. I liked the grief-inspired insanity, you can't totally call him a villain.
Bale was great again. He really has the dichotomy of his character nailed. I loved the daft Bruce who ran the stop light and saved the lawyer act. I loved the way he has evolved as Batman using a crime lab and becoming a detective.
The action was great, it felt real, you could feel the lack of cgi.
The plot was clever, the crimes were clever, it fucking rocked on every level possible.

The movie's credit's should read: Christian Bale, Michael Cane, THE JOKER, etc.

I think this was awesome and rates as number 2 for me, but I really think Iron Man was a better superhero flick.

Yeah, I absolutely loved Iron Man. Thought it was rock-solid. I guess I would have to categorize them as Iron Man being the most fun comic book movie I've ever watched, but TDK as the "best"......meaning for me, the most fulfilling in terms of entertainment/movie...the closest to art I've ever seen a comic book commercial franchise get.

Comparing them is, literally, night and day for me. Both equally fantastic for what they bring to the screen...

like you said two very different movies, hard to compare. i went back and saw iron man for a second time, i'll likely wait for DVD on DK, though moreso because it was so long. in my mind Iron Man was more entertaining so I give it the edge.

Yeah, both TDK and IM are excellent, but in different ways. It's impossible for me to say which was a better film.

Also, I went back and saw TDK last night. If anything, it held up to a repeated viewing.

I would agree that there's two minor holes in the film:

(1) the scene at the fundraiser, namely, after Batman jumped after Rachael, what kept Mr. J from killing everyone in the place in an effort to find Harvey;
(2) after Rachael and Harvey were taken hostage, why did Batman tell Gordon he (Batman) would go after Rachael and then go after Harvey instead?

Still, I have a feeling the answers to both questions were cut for time and will show up in an extended DVD.

Another crowded showing, BTW. This movie is going to stay big.

The Joker lied.

Batman thought he was going for Rachel and Harvey was there instead. Joker SOP.

`Dark Knight' grabs $43.8M more, nears $400M total
  • The Batman blockbuster "The Dark Knight" hauled in $43.8 million to rank as Hollywood's top movie for the third-straight weekend, fending off "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor," which opened a close second with $42.5 million.

"The Dark Knight" has soared to a $394.9 million haul in just 17 days, according to studio estimates Sunday. The Warner Bros. release should sail past the $400 million mark by Monday or Tuesday, said Dan Fellman, head of distribution for Warner.

I don't really consider that a hole, as much as a plot decision. Batman took out the goons, and the police were on their way (I think). Why would he stay around when it looked like Harvey wasn't there at all and the authorities were coming?

My question about that scene was: How on earth did Batman survive that fall with her? Did he fire a line I didn't see?

his glider cape opened halfway which was enough to soften the fall so that they didnt die

That to me was the hardest part to believe. I know he had the cape which acted as a parachute but still...she landed on top of him and he took the full brunt of the impact of 2 people landing.

I fell down some stairs in 2004 as many know and got 2 very bad herniated discs from it. So at the very least I would imagine he would need some disc surgery at some point in the near future.

If you would have fallen down the stairs in a movie based on a comic book you would have been fine.

My take on it is that Iron Man is the best comicbook superhero movie, but DK was the better movie.
I consider the Batman films to be less like a comic book hero, and more of a reality based superhero movie.
Yeah, DK was still high in the fantasy stakes, but so far removed from the over the top super heroics of Spidey, FF, Iron Man and Supes etc.

Storywise, DK was easily the better story, but was not really like watching a comic book come to life.

Simple fact is though, with movies like those two, we are all winners! (except Pariah, but he is retarded anyway)

How much armour was you wearing?
I'm betting I have had bike crashes with heavier impacts than your fall, yet have not damaged any of my discs...thats what difference armour makes!

the most appealing factor to me about iron man, as pro said, was that the movie was fun -- which is an aspect missing from most all super hero movies lately (that, and the traditional super hero theme song). i also loved the origin of the character, as well as downey's defining portrayal. i think i might have even liked the movie more if it ended after he blew up the terrorist guys. the movie's overall story was a little weak towards the end, after establishing iron man, and i thought the final battle was pretty lame. that should be a big enough scar on the film for me to not like it at all, but the first hour or so of the film was so goddamn good, they could actually be ignored.

comparatively, i think tdk was without question a better film.

though, if i were ranking an all time best movie list, i'd probably put batman begins above both of them. even though i think, confusingly, TDK was a better movie, i'd rank BB higher because it was the definitive origin retelling of batman, and the movie that revolutionized the character / genre.

I think the pacing of DK was far better than Begins as the whole origin thing slowed Begins down.
Free from that kind of baggage, there were very few lulls in the storytelling.

Joker, we never got, and never wanted an origin, which was great.
And Two-Faces origin was so ingrained into the plot, and strung out over the whole movie, that it was never a distraction.

I think one thing Dark Knight showed is that you can have a multitude of characters and plot points, without it becoming bogged down and half finished (see Spidey 3).

One of the things I was incredibly happy to see was the death of Rachel.
That was one character I hated in both films, and was glad to see the back of!
