Yeah! A million different daddy stories, but not origins.

i looked at them as similar notions, i.e; "i act like this because, one day, something fucked up happened."

didn't explain the white skin, i guess, but the cracked persona would fit in.

Nah, it was pretty common family abuse stuff, from what I recall. He was just using that to get Harley's sympathy. I believe he also told a happy story about the one time his dad took him ice skating or something.

No, that was the one where his dad takes him to a circus and laughs at the clowns, so Li'l J puts on his dad's trousers and pratfalls, tearing the seat of the pants, and wakes up 3 days later in the hospital after his dad kicks the shit out of him.

I think the Red Hood, regardless of what happened before it, is Canon -- that shitty 60's storyline with the new process to restore the original color to burned fibers, Robin breaks his finger and has his whole arm in a cast and burns the hair from the Hood, then it comes back green, so they figure the new thing don't work, then we find out at the end Joker is in a barn and laughs, telling them Hey he IS the Red Hood! Whatever he was before then, that's when he became Joker.
