that also goes against the idea that Batman "changed things."

How does it?
Since when was Batman a cat burglar?
Batman is the first superhero/vigilante, it doesnt mean there were not masked people before.
Also, Joker was already in existance during the first film, and seemed to exist either simultaneously with Batman, or even exist before Batman!

I'm not trying to explain it away within the logic of the continuity, I'm guessing at the film maker's intentions for the series by having the Joker say that.

I am sure that there are plenty of older women roles in Hollywood if you really look!

Don't get me wrong, she's still very attractive. I would wank to her in the catwoman suit. But hollywood is hollywood. I just don't see them casting a woman who is currently 42, and would be 45 by the time the next film is released.
Also Carter specifically is Tim Burton's wife. I can't see her doing a series that is constantly being compared to her husband's series. And keep in mind her husband did a version of Catwoman.

granted, and she was hot. but that's the exception. and she was only 35 at the time of the first film, still young.

She was 30, Reeve was pretty young when he took the role.
The point isn't necessarily the age difference, it's that Carter is in her mid-40's and Batman films are big hollywood blockbusters. I just can't see Warner Brothers greenlighting that kind of casting for their big summer movie. And I only mentioned the age difference because Bale is in his mid-30's, not like Reeve and Marsden who were in their 20's at the time.

Bow ties are coool.
