'Dark Knight' swings past $500 million mark: Batman's rich alter-ego Bruce Wayne has added half a billion dollars to his riches. "The Dark Knight" on Sunday became the second movie in Hollywood history to top $500 million at the domestic box office, raising its total to $502.4 million, according to estimates from distributor Warner Bros.

The Titanic record of 600 million is unlikely but I bet if Ledger gets a nomination for an Oscar and they re-release the movie in January and market it properly it could make some more dough.....maybe even break the record.

She's looked better in other movies. She looked like an old hag in this one. Especially since she replaced someone that looks fifteen years younger than her.

She was the hotness in "Secretary." She was pretty cute in that Will Ferrell movie also (the one where his life is being narrated-I can't recall the name right now).

In "DK," she was average at best.

This is from Yahoo!: And it reads:

'The film hit that mark in just over six weeks, half the time it took "Titanic," which reached $500 million in a little more than three months. "Titanic," the biggest modern blockbuster, remains No. 1 on the domestic charts with $600.8 million.'

"Factoring in today's higher admission prices, "The Dark Knight" would need to take in about $900 million to match the number of tickets sold by "Titanic.""

Thing is, inflation isn't so striking as all that in 10 yrs. So it literally costs more per ticket now, and the equation ought to weight the ticket sales that way.

i think the people who write those stories are feminazis, they always mention dark knight isnt close with inflation, but never mention that Titanic isnt close to Gone With The Wind with inflation.

Dark Knight wont reach it because of DVD sales, they wont pass Christmas up without a Dark Knight DVD, when that hits any box office left will dry up.

Oh, and just for the record, have ticket prices in the US really increased that much?
Ticket prices here have probably only gone up between £1.00 to £1.50 in 10 years.

The cinema I go to is about £8 for a ticket right now, but was no less than £6.50 10 years ago.

Yeah. They ought to rate these things like the recording industry does with record sales. They rate by units sold, not the price of the album.

If the RIAA ranked albums the same way the movie industry ranks films, inflation would mean that Britney Spears was a more successful artist than Elvis, Bob Dylan or the Beatles.

Between 1997 and 2007, the average ticket price in the U.S. increased by approximately fifty percent, a lot higher than the general rate of inflation.

the theater in town here lets students in for $2.75 with their bgsu id, even for new releases. there was one in columbus that did the same thing for osu students. I wonder if I should ask for the same grad-student discount they give me at the bookstore...

go.

I used to get a movie ticket for about $4.50, iirc. Non-matinee. Now it's closer to $9.00 -- $12- for IMAX. And theaters used to take student ids for discount. Now they only take military and senior citz.

Depending on the theater you're going to, it's really easy to sneak in to a movie. Prices have gone up quickly around here. Less and less places are honoring the student discount (which I'll use until the day I die). So if I'm going to be paying $8.50 or more to see a movie, you bet I'll be sneaking in my own food and drink.

Sneaking in your own food and drink is a definite must do. My only somewhat exceptions to this are the Nickelodeon (a local independent theater) and the Monetta Drive-In. I'll sneak a soda into the Nick, but only because I spend the bulk of my allotted concessions money on the great buckets of beer specials that they have. Monetta, while I do have to sneak in alcohol, is the last drive-in in SC so I cough up the extra cash to help keep it afloat.

$7.25 or $8.25 depending on which theater. The more expensive one is nicer and a fifteen minute walk from where I live. Its a couple dollars cheaper during the day and there's a $1.50 theater that's pretty decent. They allow backpacks since everyone here is on bike so I always sneak in food.

Its a two hour drive to an Imax theater.
